A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I saw it before reading it, which may have colored the impression I got from the book. Then again, I can't recall finding any similar instances in literature amusing, either.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

There are more? Like, is it a major meme to have a scene where a woman gets a clonk on the head from behind while performing fellatio and thus bites off the object of her attention?? Next up: novels and movies where people performing cunnilingus are similarly clonked, and break their noses on the pubic bone.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

And John Irving has other issues (like bears and wrestling)

And Vienna. And hookers. And really weird sex with inappropriate people.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

This is making me think of Chasing Amy, but I dare not google to make sure.

information libertarian

Nobody is mentioning the huge SCREWING YOUR SISTER I.E. INCEST issue John Irving has???

(Edit: I guess that would be covered under "really weird sex with inappropriate people.")

Hey. New board.

Still excited about The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

So far it's getting pretty good reviews.

Sadly, I don't think I'll be able to convince any of my friends to go see it with me. I might be walking to a Pasadena theater all on my own.

Well, Garp doesn't have a sister. Although, his mom screws a comatose soldier (hence the existence of Garp), so you could say that the not-kosher, non-con sex issue is quite present.

Haha. I forgot about that scene until you mentioned it. Those were some funny stories.

Garp still has weird and inappropriate sex with -- hell, I can't remember any more -- a friend's wife?

If I only had a brain...

Just for the record, what sort of sex is not weird?
