Mr. and Mrs. Smith is the only trailer that made me want to go, so far. Seems there are fewer and fewer(Maybe because I'm so broke it seems like a committment, or maybe it's the kindness of Netflix.)
Buffista Movies 4: Straight to Video
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
It is apparently accepted as Star Wars canon that the Rebel Alliance was in its beginning stages in Episode IV
Hmm. It's been a long long time since I was up on Star Wars canon, but during my heyday I knew an awful lot. I was pretty sure that Bail Organa was working on the Alliance for the vast majority of Leia's life, down to having her help him politically behind the scenes, preparing for the seemingly inevitable dissolution of the Senate, since she was less than ten years old.
Also, I thought the point of the Leia/Luke "feelings, really" and "I have no memory of my mother" was to point out that they had been separated before their mother died. Something which I'm gathering doesn't actually happen in Sith.
Not good V for Vendetta news.
Eh, he's just being cranky. He's mostly mad that Joel Silver used his name in promotions after Moore had expressly stated he wasn't to be associated with any movie adaptations. It's not like he's commenting on the script or rushes.
It made me wonder -- is it a straw breaking his back, or does he think this'll come out worse than his other stuff that was adapted?
My takes:
The Longest Yard - Pass
Madagascar - Might be good
Batman - Like we need another Batman movie
Bewitched - Looks lame
Cinderella Man - Ron Howard Films = Eww
Land of the Dead - Cool-looking
Herbie: Fully Loaded - Yuck
High Tension - Could be good, could be a generic horror movie
Honeymooners - Barf
Lords of Dogtown - Zzzzzzz
Mr. and Mrs. Smith - This one looks good
The Perfect Man (Hillary Duff vehicle) - More Vomit
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - Looks cute
War of the Cruise - Spielberg's a good director, but this movie's so unnecessary
Bad News Bears - This didn't need to be remade either
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - I like Tim Burton too, but - yeah - unnecessary remake. Though I'm more likely to see this than War of the Worlds
Dark Water - Pass
The Devil's Rejects - Pass
Fantastic Four - Pass
The Island - Pass
Night Watch - This looks awesome from the trailer
Sky High (Disney) - Meh
Stealth - God, no!
Wedding Crashers - Owen Wilson stopped being funny quite a few years ago
Deuce Bigalow 2 - Yuck
Dukes of Hazzard - Maybe I'll watch this when it's on TV, so I can mute it.
Pink Panther - Yet another unnecessary remake, but I do like Steve Martin
Red Eye - This looks cool
Skeleton Key - Makes me wanna laugh in Kate Hudson's face
Valiant - Hmm. I haven't heard of this one before.
The 40 Year Old Virgin - I haven't heard much about this one, either. Probably pass.
The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl in 3-D - could be good, could be stupid
It made me wonder -- is it a straw breaking his back, or does he think this'll come out worse than his other stuff that was adapted?
I'm thinking more straw. Though he probably has no faith in anybody doing film adaptations of his work at this point. (Terry Gilliam should've done Watchmen as an HBO miniseries, I say.)
But I'm thinking V for Vendetta might be the work closest to his heart.
Worth watching?
Can't say, I haven't seen it yet. Stephanie Romanov was enthused, and Williams doesn't play a retarded janitor, so it's probably not the worst movie out there.
I saw RotS today. I thought Ewan and Ian McDiarmid aquitted themselves well, and Frank Oz did his usual voice work with Yoda. The rest might as well have used cardboard cut-outs of the actors.
Also, Palpatine was in desperate need of the Evil Overlord Handbook. When pulling an ambush on your enemies, you do not assign the task of assassinating the wisest, most powerful, and most prescient of their number to a pair of candy-ass robots. You have said robots give a locator signal that allows your orbiting star destroyers to bombard his exact position with energy weapons strong enough to rupture the planet's crust.
Mr. Industries, thank you! I'mma pick up the book.
Interesting article on Slate about how the insurance industry runs key aspects of Hollywood production. Nicole Kidman almost got blackballed for her bum knee.
I wish he'd talked a little about the fact that HK filmmaking was under no such requirements which is exactly why Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh could do their own stunts.
