Who'm I kidding here? I'll never top 21 Jump Street and I know it.

Buffista Movies 4: Straight to Video
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
We have Ray, Finding Neverland, and Sideways coming today.
I've seen two, not "Sideways" yet.
Sideways is out on DVD? Whoo!
EW says that Timothy Dalton/Zelda Clarke version of Jane Eyre is coming out on DVD (sans extras, alas), which for my money is the best adaptation of the book out there, for all its cheap production values and Dalton being way too pretty to be Rochester. Clarke is very good, and Dalton is a champion brooder. I'd forgotten that the damn thing is 5 hours long though. Hmmm.
It's really too bad that nobody filmed JE with Alan Rickman as Rochester, because he's got the charismatic and sexy ugliness and the explosive intensity of the character down cold.
I have Sideways and Ocean's Twelve at home, and Million Dollar Hotel on the way. I had to knock my subscription back down to 3-at-a-time for the summer, until baseball season is over.
Between the Mariners and my U2 obsession, I haven't felt much like watching movies lately.
Million Dollar Hotel
A cross between Million Dollar Baby and Hotel Rwanda ?
A cross between Million Dollar Baby and Hotel Rwanda ?
But a comedy.
My love for Johnny Depp's cool just went up another notch.
I could go for a screwball comedy with Don Cheadle and Hilary Swank as the romantic leads, but even if genocide gets replaced with mass euthanasia I don't think there would be much funny to mine from it.
Isn't Million Dollar Hotel the Mel Gibson movie with all the U2 songs? I bought the soundtrack to that for my housemate (huge U2 fan) and then copied the best songs for myself. I really like "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" (title taken from the Salman Rushdie book, which... has nothing at all to do with the movie, IIRC). Also the Milla Jovovich song, but then again, I maybe have a little thing for Milla.
