Now, where was I?
'The Girl in Question'
Buffista Movies 4: Straight to Video
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
(Seriously, is nobody getting else bored with this? Just me?)
(I have been skipping since yesterday noon, and it Just Won't End.)
So, how about that Fassbinder, huh? Really exciting exegesis of the fetishized gaze in the phallogocentric mise en scene.
In other news, will Ben-Hur be playing this weekend? Please say yes. Between that and Hollandaise sauce, it is pretty much all of the enjoyment I get out of Easter.
Nutty, the silent version was on TCM last Sunday night. Sadly, our TiVo decided to record something else.
But the silent version is not a Gore Vidal extravanganza! Wait, the silent version was the one where someone was killed in the chariot race, right? I suppose that will do, in a pinch. (Not that I get TCM.)
Yahoo TV gives me no listings for Ben Hur over the next 14 days.
There's a silent version of Ben Hur? Weird.
Wow. It's been years since I've seen Ben Hur. I suspect it'll be difficult now for me to watch Ben Hur and Messala making eyes at each other and not yell, "Oh, fer fuck's sake. Just shag already!", which may not be strictly in the spirit of Easter, whatever that is.
Something is afoot at the Circle K.
Vonnie, the story goes that the actor playing Messala was told to play the character as if he and Ben Hur were former lovers. So, subtext may be a little less sub than usual.
