I'm a single undead gal trying to make it in the big city. I have to start somewhere and they're evil here. They don't judge. They've got necro-tempered glass. No burning up. A great medical plan, and who needs dental more than us?

Buffy and Angel 1: BUFFYNANGLE4EVA!!!!!1!

Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.

Since several people mentioned liking the TGiQ subplot with Illyria & Fred's parents... could someone elaborate on that? I know my feelings for the characters involved didn't make me terribly receptive to that story, but I'd like to at least understand what other people got from it, even if I can't feel it myself. For me, those scenes were far more unpleasant to watch than the Italian hijinks.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

There was the cool shock value, and getting to watch Wesley's pained response, and seeing the wheels turning in Illyria's mind as it started exploring opportunities to manipulate and influence people that didn't rely on overwhelming brute force.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I thought that AD and AA knocked it out of the park, and it was just harrowing for me in general.

Also, Burkles! The one pair of sane, loving, non-dead parents in the entire Jossverse!

Oh, I liked the Burkles. That's why I was so horrifed.

brillig

It was heartbreaking, storywise, but my biggest thrill was watching AA's acting, being cheerful, standard Fred one second then whipsawing into calculating Illyria.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Mainly, though, it was that they took several possibilities with inherent, on-going conflict (Macqui vs. Federation on the same ship; re-humanized, de-hiveminded Borg) and did the least interesting things with them which resulted in draining all internal conflict (and, hence, the best potential for drama) from the show.

Wrod. Which is why IMO the real Voyager is the Talking Stick/Circle fanfiction cycle, which still reigns as my favorite fanfic ever, and among my favorite stories ever: [link]

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

Agree on the suckitude of the Angel/Spike/Buffy/Andrew storyline and the awesomeness of the Fred/Wes/Burkles storyline. That was really fun to type, what with all the slashes.

Fred, Wes, & the Burkles? Aww, gross! Oh... you mean actual slashes. That's alright, I guess.
