Buffy and Angel 1: BUFFYNANGLE4EVA!!!!!1!

Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.

Another unpopular opinion: LOVED Voyager.

This also appears to be English, but is unintelligible to me.

You know, I really liked some of the Voyager characters (Janeway, Chocotay (sp??), B'lanna, Tom), but the stories were never compelling to me. It's like they started with some decent ideas for characters and didn't do anything with them.

This is how I felt about it, plus there only so many times the ship can get hit with a mutter mutter anomaly before my eyes roll out of my head. Mainly, though, it was that they took several possibilities with inherent, on-going conflict (Macqui vs. Federation on the same ship; re-humanized, de-hiveminded Borg) and did the least interesting things with them which resulted in draining all internal conflict (and, hence, the best potential for drama) from the show.

Frank, you and I are as one on Voyager.

And Ent never managed a high point higher than the Vulcan Nipple Episode. Though it scores bonus points for canon MPreg.

I thought most of AtS S5 was quite enjoyable (cue the mutters of "Well, she likes Spike, go figure"), because it gave us a chance to look at the twisted relationship of Spike and Angel.

I agree for the most part, and I'd grown to loathe Spike like few fictional characters by that point. The dysfunctional parent-child relationship was the one facet of interest left to Spike's character, though I think it would have been better if they'd dialed the "am not!"/"are too!" arguing back to about 5% of what made it on the screen and included more of the "you made me a monster!" type stuff.

The Angel/Spike stuff worked really well in the context of the Connor storyline, and the contrast from Angels POV of "blood" family to found/friend family.

brillig

t regretting the lost AtS S6, wherein we might have gotten to see Connor and Spike having to deal with the family thing

I quite liked Integrated!Connor.

What is even happening?

I was thinking of suggesting (but then I started moving and got distracted) watching the episodes in order again together (maybe one per week) and talking about them. I didn't join until Season 5, so I missed 4 seasons of Buffista-talk.

I've been thinking of the same thing, for a long time. I can't do watch and post while it's going on. And a lot of the fun of watch and post (at least when I read through it) seems to be the surprises. For most of us, we're not going to have that with Buffy and Angel. We could start a rewatch thingie though, and do it right in this thread, and whoever wanted to could make it a watch-n-post experience, too.

  • Should we go in season/episode order?
  • Should we mix A:ts in, right from the beginning, or when we get to BtVS season 4?
  • How many episodes, how often?

Plus Angel (and DB) were always fun when someone/thing was annoying him and he had to put up with it.

Honestly, other than the Fred subplot, which wouldn't have fit, I wish TGiQ had been put in place of the WWII episode and that they expanded the end run an episode at least - everything else would have fit, I think, and they could have set up the Black Circle thing in a little less of a rush. An episode that light-weight wouldn't have bothered me early on. Other than some minor character notes for Angel, the submarine episode did nothing for me but meh - at least TGiQ made me laugh a lot.

Ann, that's a ferret.

I like Frank's idea. Assuming SMG were available.

I'm currently doing this with a friend of mine, and for the first season or so of Angel especially, it really makes more sense to wait until the right era.

We're on seasons 5 and 2, respecitively, right now, and I'm glad we held off on Angel, if only for Fool For Love and Darla going back to back.

However, if it meant losing the Fred/Wes/Burkles stuff completely, I wouldn't change it around - that was by far the most important part of that episode, at least for me. I think that could have worked with any episode where Angel was otherwise occupied, though.
