Can't even shout, Can't even cry. The Gentlemen are coming by. Looking in windows, knocking on doors. They need to take seven, and they might take yours. Can't call to mom, can't say a word. You're gonna die screaming but you won't be heard.

If I only had a brain...

And the look of radiant joy on Eccleston's face... ::sigh::

Not to mention Jack's delivering the classic line "It's bigger on the inside!" and the Doctor replying grimly, "You'd better be."

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

"Everybody lives, Rose! Just this once, everybody lives!!" ::happy sigh::

That is quite possibly my favorite moment in the series. I think it brought tears to my eyes.

Right there with you, P-C.

And for comedy - good god, the sonic screwdriver discussion.

That ep was just gold all around.

So, Matt, were you disappointed that you were TOTALLY RIGHT?

I loved the nanogenes resolution because it made so much fucking sense, and it came from a throwaway bit of sci-fi dressing that you wouldn't think would be relevant to the main plot.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Well, somewhat, since I think it would have lived up to the first half of the story better if we'd not found out what was going on. I feared that would turn out to be the explanation the instant the nanogenes made their appearance in Captain Jack's ship and gave me flashbacks to that DS9 show about Kai Opaka having to stay on the war-torn planet where nannites made everyone immortal.

I'm still skeptical about nannites being able to let the Child hear people through unplugged radios and manipulate a 1940s era mechanical typewriter from afar, nevermind raising him from the dead. If that's technologically possible, why weren't the Time Lords making use of the method to bring back citizens that had used up their 12th regenerations?

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Maybe they weren't really, sincerely, dead yet?

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

why weren't the Time Lords making use of the method to bring back citizens that had used up their 12th regenerations?

The case could be made that the 12 regeneration limit was something proscribed by Gallifrean law, and not a hard limit. In "The Five Doctors" the high council promised the Master new regenerations if he helped the Doctor.

They were only mostly dead.

If I only had a brain...

The science on Doctor Who is never anything resembling our Earth-science. Just wave your hands. (Or "repeat to yourself, 'This is just a show, I should really just relax.'")

Incidentally, there's a cut line setting this up in the script. The Doctor says that when he was a little kid he figured out how to communicate with nanites. Rose replies, "There are so many ways to say, 'I had a lonely childhood.'"
