You're nice, and you're funny and you don't smoke, and okay, werewolf, but that's not all the time. I mean, three days out of the month, I'm not much fun to be around, either.

What is even happening?

Apparently there will be a news special on the "menonite mob"
Kat, what menonite mob?

So, I figure i do 60K worth of work a year. I make 42-43K depending on bonuses that seem to come right before I'm about to quit.
So if I divide one number into the other, I get .7
Now, if I multiply .7 by 5, I get 3.5
Is that the number of hours that I should sit on my ass and do nothing until they catch up to what I should be making, or the number of days I should sit on my ass and do nothing until they catch up to what I should be making.
Neither. You don't need to do the last calculation at all. You're getting paid 70% of what you are worth to them—in work performed. So, if X = 100% of all the work you do now, you need to stop doing 30% of X (or 0.3X). That is, the work you perform should be equal to 0.7X.

The 3.5 number is sort of nifty though, so if you want to exact a surcharge for making you figure it all out, you could tack it on.

There's a new book out contending that predation played a much larger role in human evolution than has been acknowledged--that many of our distinctly human characteristics evolved first to deal with predators and then were used for other purposes. The book argues that schalrs have neglected these effects because we don't have any consistent predators any more.

Except each other. ijs

Even Scarlet the heroic mama cat made me a little sad, since she was so hurt. But she's awesome all the same.

Oh Alibelle, I remember that. I think that happened right when I had Benjamin. I have a memory of being in a hospital bed, bawling my eyes out, watching the news story.

I associate Saltines with: being out on our boat in Biscayne Bay, riding home at the end of the day. Very hungry, but only having the Saltines to eat. Becky (my next door neighbor) and I would ride on the prow of the boat and eat Saltines. Also, I liked to eat them with peanut butter.
Huh. Weird. I also associate Saltines with Florida.
I do not associate Saltines with Florida, but I've never been to Florida. I do like them with peanut butter, but mostly associate them either with being sick, or with soup (which also has a strong sick association). The oddest part of all that for me, is that despite the strong association with with illness, I still love them.

Nilly, how's your internet connection, today?

Laura, how is your son's knee?

Theo, is today a do-over in that you're staying home?

Thus ends the journey of the incompletes. I'm thrilled beyond imagination.

Yay you! Are you going to celebrate that in some way? Because you definitely deserve it.

And, go Allyson, as well, I guess. Are you still planning of widening the paper into a thesis?

how's your internet connection, today?

So far it only disappears for relatively short unexplained intervals. And the computer is alive through them, and not craching what I'm trying to run. So that's good news. Thanks for asking.

Yup! There have been little celebrations (popcorn and wine on Sunday night), but there will be a big celebration on Sunday with the Somervillains. We're going for maragritas and Mexican food. I can hardly wait.

And, go Allyson, as well, I guess

Yes. Allyson was a great help. Also, Deena, Ginger and PC were too.

Are you still planning of widening the paper into a thesis?

I am hoping to widen it, but it's going to be a bit more of a challenge to get it approved than I was hoping. More than likely I'm going to need to get someone in the sociology department (of which I know NO ONE) to advise the project. So, I'm going to meet with my favorite English prof and see if he's got any ideas. I definately think it deserves further research and work, and I'd really like to do that. If I don't do it for school, I may just do it on my own. We'll see.

Our wings are not tired.

Laura, how is your son's knee?

He's still hobbling about. He is supposed to have practice tonight, but Dad has declared he can watch practice. The docs say that playing sports with the growing pains won't cause any permanent damage, but much pain. My concern, which the docs and DH agree with, is that he might fall or otherwise seriously injure himself playing in that kind of pain. Dad is talking to coach tonight about cutting down on his playing time. He usually is in most of the game.

Yay for improved Nilly access!

Dear Theo, sorry you are feeling bad. Are you staying home today?

Laura, is dh going to talk to the coach, about approaching the officials regarding your son being targeted because he's the big kid?

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Gronk.

I want coffee. I have no cash. The coffee place doesn't take credit cards. The nearest ATM is across the street. It's snowing. I'm trying to figure out where my priorities lie in this situation.

Also, this weather is insane. Not the snow itself -- I'm fine with a few inches of snow. Just the fact that, yesterday, I was wearing a light jacket, unbuttoned, and today I had to wear a hat and scarf again.

Oh, good luck with that!

Which reminds me - you're going to put the paper online, right? I'm really curious to read it.

Theo, feel (even) better.

Yup. That's the plan. I need to figure out *where* I'll be putting it, but I'm sure I can find someone who's willing to host it.

Excellent. Thanks!

And now I need to go finish the lesson for today. Please ignore me harshly if I'm here again in the next hour.
