I've tried on dresses from Casablanca, Lazaro, Mori Lee, Christina Wu, Demetrios, Maggie Sottero, Pronovias, and this afternoon I'm going to a trunk show for Rivini, but somehow I can't see spending thousands of dollars on a dress I'll wear for one day.
Ironically, the strapless ones are the ones that look best. I tried sleeves to hide the upper arms, but all that did was emphasize them or make me look matronly. I also discovered that champagne- or ivory-colored dresses compliment my complexion much better than any shade of white. Huh.

Here's a tale I heard this morning about the wedding industry.
My assistant is getting married in the fall. He called the hotel where they're having the reception saying that he was inquiring about planning a large business dinner rather than wedding (which he does do for the firm, but not in this case.) Price they quoted him - something like 30% less than what they're paying for the wedding. Nice. His rather aggressive future father-in-law has already called the hotel and shouted them into a rebate of about 8k.
