We had a jaundice scare last week, Cindy. And he's been colicky at night -- I had the midnight to 5 am shift of rocking & singing to the baby. But his bilirubin counts are well within normal ranges now, and he's actually managed to get through the last two nights without inconsolable crying. I got 5 hours of unbroken sleep! My wife only got 3, though, 'cause he still needs to eat; he's just not losing his temper as much.

I remember thinking if I could just get four, I could rule the world. I hope he starts stretching it out a little soon, for your wife's sake. Colicky? Urgh. My deepest sympathies. I'm so glad you could push off returning to work. It's so hard from the mother's side, because her body is so beat by the pregnancy, labor, delivery, blood and fluid loss, recovery, and sleep loss, nursing, etc., etc., etc.
Did they tell you to keep your curtains open and let Abe (great name!!!) get some daylight? I suspect my Ben's jaundice was milder because we didn't have an actual scare, but I remember the pediatrician telling me to do that, in the hospital.
Thanks, Cindy. Yeah, Abe's getting regular sun. I think the doctors over-reacted to the bili count, anyway, demonstrating the same sort of lawsuit medicine that lead us to go with an independent birthing center in the first place. My wife's mother left abruptly on Monday (we still don't know if we offended her or what, but at this point, our level of concern over that is pretty low), so I'm glad to have the extra time. My wife is recovering well, but she's still pretty beat up from the birth. I'd stay out of work for longer if I could, but I'm afraid I'd put myself on the list of people to fire when the time is ripe if I did.
ita, Betsy, and others who have done PT, I have a question. Given that I am leaving here in less than 2 months and already have a relationship with a chiropractor who gives me exercises to do and such things, does it make sense to start a relationship with a physical therapist now. Shouldn't I just wait until I get to Palo Alto?
I would get PT started as soon as possible. He's liable to have a diagnosis of his own, and the more you can do to stop your body from compensating and further damage the better.
Some injuries just need time to go from therapy-responding to surgery-needing.
