Overwhelming? How much more than whelming would that be exactly?

And, oddly, a blood pressure drug, clonidine, has been used effectively in withdrawal cases since 1978-ish, though I don't know if your character(s) would know that. Its potential side effects are (obviously) hypotension and its accompanying symptoms (dizziness, cold extremities), as well as sedation.

As one who was on clonidine for several months, I can definitely testify to the sedation effects of that shit. An hour and a half after taking a pill, I would fall asleep no matter what I was doing. I had to reschedule driving errands around that damned stuff.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

Actually, I could certainly have my character know that, since said character has a doctor for a parent. And other character might well have been given blood pressure meds; I had a bit of this conversation with Teppy. One of the things MS does, as well as its medications, is to raise the blood pressure. But my character's also had a mild heart attack, and they'd be monitoring his BP and giving him meds to keep it down.

Hmmmmm. Because if he has nice new shiny bottles of both? It could add considerably to the tension when both bottles turn up missing.

What is even happening?

Isn't codeine an opiate?

Dude! I am all about the many pages of the WIP, and in fact, having just done five more, I'm-a back at it.

Go, Susan! You don't need to be takin' that shit off The Man!

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Over dinner I was reading over the latest Romantic Times Book Club Magazine and snarking over some groan-inducing titles and plot devices.

DH wants me to write a book about a TV chef who discovers that he's become an accidental bigamist, since his divorce wasn't as final as he thought. The title? Here's One I Laid Earlier.

Bwah! That's a good one, Susan.

Deb, I can confirm on the clonidine, too. It was one of the drugs they gave my son as part of his ADD regimen when he was younger. It took maybe an hour after he took it to put him into a trance. He usually ended up sleeping from it.

41,000 words. 198 pages. This is the scene that's offering to tear me in half and it's pouring like liquid.

Dayum. Riding the tiger.
