This is not an issue. Fully 99% of all the music on my iPod is ripped from CDs.

The iTunes default format is not mp3 (but you can change the default to mp3) but rather Apple's proprietary AAC (I think that's what it is). That's the format that music downloaded from the iTunes store is, and also the format that only plays on an iPod.

Really? Were they ripped from a protected CD or anything? I've never encountered that (though there were some MP3s that wouldn't play on my Clie). What was their source?
They might have been MP3s downloaded from Napster. It wa only 3 or 5.
If I wore this hat I would bump into things. A lot.

At least on the Mac, iTunes (when first installed) defaults to ripping songs in AAC format, but that's easily changed to mp3.
