Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

We always made a big deal out of V-day when I was growing up, but it was more an excuse to exchange goofy cards with family members and eat chocolate. Kind of an "I love you and am glad to have you in my life" day. I always send cards to family and friends who are far away and that's who I get them from, too. I think it CAN be a couples thing, but I wasn't brought up that way, and am glad about that.

I bought a box of cheapo "Hello Kitty" cards and asked the weekend shift to make sure everyone had one on their desk when they got in this morning.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Turning off the auto-correction is not hard.

It shouldn't be. But for some reason Word still kept "fixing" my em-dashes and ellipses after I thought I'd turned off the auto-corrects in question. Actually correcting the problem required finding some additional menu that DH led me to. I hope I can find it again next time I'm setting up a manuscript.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

I bought Lori the best accidental Valentine's Day Gift yesterday. She was there for the entire transaction and I looked at her and said, "Happy Valentine's Day."

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I've never gotten a romantic Valentine's anything, but I am in possession of some sweet platonic ones. I think the day used to irritate me, but now I barely notice it.

I sent you a Valentine!

I admit it. I'm depressed. I want a pretty boy to send me pretty flowers and tell me I'm pretty. I believe the hype.

I think you can turn that feature off. But I'm not in the mood to navigate Excell menus to find out for sure.

Ah. Found it.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I sent you a Valentine!

Hey ... did you see the pretty and the sweet? Yours is definitely included. Yay, Hello Kitty!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

This year? Chocolate? Score!

No not this year, couple years ago.

I kind of like Salon's approach to this. They're running a series of remembrances of "lost loves" and regrets. That's a about perfectly pitched between romance and disappointment.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I got chocolates from David! That was nice.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Oh well. I'll just have to be sure to not forget to send the Shark Week cards....

And don't forget Yak Shaving Day.

I want a pretty boy to send me pretty flowers and tell me I'm pretty. I believe the hype.

Well, I'm not pretty, but I've seen pictures and you are pretty and funny and a lot of fun to have around here. I didn't send any flowers though, my wife probably wouldn't approve.
