Yeah, I understand. What I meant is that my experience has been, you don't get any routine raises or COLAs at all; you maybe get a promotion after a few years, or you maybe quit and find another job -- so the lifelong trend is up, but it's nothing nice and predictable like annual increases.

We haven't heard this dog bark at all yet. She whines a little when distressed, but not big on barking, even though she has seen other dogs, a squirrel, our two cats, and a stranger (Kat, who was the first to meet her! Yay!) at the door. The foster carers said she only barks when she's playing outside.
