Yeah, that sounds more like what these people charge.
Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

libkitty - I got the book, omnis, but I don't have RPG experience and it's taking me a while to get together folks who do and are interested and have time. A friend looked it over, and thought that the character info was good but it lacked something or other that I don't remember. I can ask for his comments again if you're interested, but I imagine you'll get better answers from others here.
Thanks libkitty. I'm curious more than anything. I'm not a big RPG player (some minor experience in college with a a$$hole player who smited me cuz he could, rather than help me learn the game... story for another time). anyhow, was curious when I saw it in Amazon, and wondered if it was any good.
Sidebar - any folks in SoCal area, wouldn't mind trying some RPG again.

I must have had a bout of hysterical blindness on the zero.
Tamara, are you still around? If I can get a screen and some space for people to sit there, there's a guy, who wrote a thing, and there's other stuff.
What a love.
I am planning to go to the hotel Saturday night and buy a round for all Browncoats. That is the least I can do, when what I really want to do is hurt some people.
More love.
Simon from Whedonesque removed the item (thank you, Simon!). It was bullshit - I know for a fact the guests were still cancelled. I do not understand why they kept saying the event was still on.I hope Simon saved a copy of the page, somewhere, because this is an issue of fraud at this point, not that fans will ever be able to collect from Booster Events, itself.
I hope most people paid with credit cards.
The thing that REALLY pisses me off is that two weeks ago, it was clear there were massive problems. Yet they promised the event was back on. Two weeks ago there were backup plans being put in place. Right now, the hotel won't even give James etc the space (they're waiting on legal clearance).
That's what burned me, when I was reading through what I could find. The fans already worked out an alternate plan, and then canceled it, because BE said it was back on.
Basically, BE gave people about a few hours notice of the cancellation in the end. I'm sure other things will happen, but not as planned as before.
I hope the contingency plans end up being wonderful beyond the fans' dreams. Looking at the narrative from a distance, it is a very Firefly moment, with a slice of Buffy birthday cake.
They basically really fucked about with people. I'm slightly worried about the amount of money we're talking about here, also - it's well into 6 figures worth of ticket sales for the event, and there's things like creditors (they openly said they got loans for the event), lifetime ticket holders ($5000 each!) etc.
If they got loans, the fans shouldn't count on getting a penny back, directly. The creditors will get any money that's left, first. The poor fans who paid for lifetime tickets. Talk about a fool and his money. Gah. I can't stand that someone did this to a group of fans. Knowing the organizers are also fans makes it unbelievably worse.
I'm not even going to Flan. But I'm still with Allyson on this one. If I'd been going, seriously, I'd be going nuts I think.
Oh, yeah. I'm going nuts sitting here, with my money in my pocket.
What I don't understand is the fact that they have run events that have come off, in the past, so it's not like they don't know what goes into it. It's not like they don't have the ability to get it done.
What happened to the bloody money?
I hope Simon saved a copy of the page, somewhere, because this is an issue of fraud at this point, not that fans will ever be able to collect from Booster Events, itself.
I have a copy of what was said but I don't know if it will prove anything apart from the organisers by that stage were running around like headless chickens and didn't have a clue what was happening.
I don't know what it will prove either, but I think it ought to be preserved, in case it can help in some way, and just for people's... I don't know how to phrase it, but when something this big happens in fandom, it leaves a scar for a long time. Sometimes, people just want to pick at the scar, but sometimes, the fans need to look the thing right in the face, in order to move past it. It's part of the fandom's history. When the whole weekend has passed and there's no chance for more confusion from the post, I hope you restore it, if you can.
Well the post does in theory belong to the poster who blogged it. If he/she is willing to have it made available then I'll see.
This has been an utter fiasco created by people who fell for their own press and hype, made some woeful and dubious decisions in terms of hosting cons for other shows and who bottled it when it came to cancelling Flan 2.
Simon summaries it up well.
The problem - well, one of - with the Whedonesque post was it wasn't directly written by the company owners. It was relayed via phone from somebody claiming to be a company owner (except legally he wasn't) to somebody who relayed it in the hotel lobby which then got relayed on Whedonesque. And, the person from Booster who had called (Dave) isn't even an owner of the company, so has absolutely 0 financial or legal responsibility with the company. I tried pointing this out at the time. Fact is, yesterday, there was zero responsibility or visibility from anybody associated with Booster Entertainment.
By the way, the Browncoat Backup Bash plans are fluid. The event might have to move outside of the hotel to west hollywood for various reasons.
Thanks, Simon and Kevin.
Narrator, are you around? And okay?
Guys, does anybody know how far Hollywood Blvd is from the Hilton that Flanvention is at?
