I always thought the name Serenity had a vaguely funereal sound to it.

Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

You know, we could experiment and cancel football.

All my info is third (if not fourth) hand so take it with the same grain of salt that you would for any info on the Internet...

That being said, I am confident that they will be there.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Has anyone posted this? Slashdot is covering the Serenity marketing campaign: [link]

With a link to an article in the Weekly Standard: [link]

eta: Slashdot comments are slightly spoilery. The second link may be vaugley spoilery in the second half of the second page (after the SO HOW'S THE MOVIE? part.)

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

There's a minor spoiler early in the comments section of the first link. There may be more, but I stopped reading halfway through that one.

Oh, ah, yeah. I didn't even read the comments, but since people can post anything they want it doesn't even surprise me. Sorry.

It's possible the Weekly Standard piece is slightly spoilery in the second half of the second page. Or not - I'm not sure....

eta: The Weekly Standard described Firefly (the series) as:

Think of it as Star Wars, if Han Solo were the main character, and he still shot Greedo first.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Ha! That's an awesome description.

Tommy, no big. If I'd been paying more attention I would have realized and stopped before the spoiler. It's nice to know about the good press.

I wonder about the idea that Universal is "beta-testing a new marketing strategy." For how many movies would this realistically work? It's working for Serenity because the audience existed beforehand and was somewhat rabid (in the nicest and politest of ways) -- so, okay, films made from Whedon shows, but I have my doubts about how generalizable it is.

And if "generalizable" isn't a word, blame the gin. For the phrase "blame the gin," blame Hec. Er. Look, pretty things!

(Edited because I ended a sentence with a preposition. See? Horrible, shameful public drunkenness!)

Wait, did you bob your hair and start drinking gin after I sent you the book Bobbed Hair And Bathtub Gin?

No, just there's that Clare Fader song, "The Wine," that you put on a CD for me? Yeah, that.

And I've always drunk gin.

That's a good song for the drinking. We were just listening to it last week.

And I've always drunk gin.

Next time you're in SF - we're off to the Zam Zam Room.
