Tara: Do you have any books on robots? Giles: Oh, yes, dozens. There's a lot of research to be done in order to--no, I'm lying. Haven't got squat. I just like watching Xander squirm.

Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains

Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

No, just there's that Clare Fader song, "The Wine," that you put on a CD for me?

That's a good song for the drinking. We were just listening to it last week.

And I've always drunk gin.

Next time you're in SF - we're off to the Zam Zam Room.

Hey. New board.

I like gin. Firefly is good too. Kaylee is pretty. River is prettier. Good, then.

move out and draw fire

Weekly Standard has a review? That's positive ?!? But, but, Mal has a social conscience. How can they live with that?

And what the hell is M.E. Russell doing writing for Weekly Standard? Other than making scale for published articles.

I get all twitchy in my seat waiting for this show.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Think of it as Star Wars, if Han Solo were the main character, and he still shot Greedo first.

Wait, he wasn't the main character?

I wonder about the idea that Universal is "beta-testing a new marketing strategy." For how many movies would this realistically work? It's working for Serenity because the audience existed beforehand and was somewhat rabid (in the nicest and politest of ways) -- so, okay, films made from Whedon shows, but I have my doubts about how generalizable it is.?

The method's subsequent failure on other films that don't have a ready-made cult following from a TV show will only make Joss look like more of a genius by comparison though, so I'm all for it. How many movies have ever sold out every theater and grossed several hundred thousand dollars months before the release date?

I do think it could work to increase anticipation for franchises like the Batman and Spider-Man sequels, but they're hardly risky bets at the box office anyway.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

That aside, I really liked the article.

FYI, it's spoilery, but doesn't give away any HSQ moments.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Think of it as Star Wars, if Han Solo were the main character, and he still shot Greedo first.

Ha! That's an awesome description.

At the preview, I saw a couple of people wearing "Mal Shot First" t-shirts.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

I picked up a toaster for a coworker. She was a Buffy/Angel fan, but never got into Firefly while it was on. I loaned her the first 2 discs a couple of weeks ago and she stopped by my desk a couple days ago to say she's loving it and she'd like to borrow the other discs when she comes back from vacation. She was all happy to hear there's a movie coming out. Whee!!

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

I do find this quote from the slashdot comments a good sign:

I had never seen the Firefly series and a friend told me about the Serenity screening (http://www.cantstopthesignal.com/ [cantstopthesignal.com]). I went to it not expecting much and not knowing anything of the story. It turns out you don't need to know anything about the series to enjoy this movie. The screening was a great story it was already a well done movie. I enjoyed the movie so much I bought the series on DVD the next day.

When Serenity comes out do yourself a favor and watch this movie. I share many similar interests with other people here on Slashdot and I feel that many of the nerds here will like it.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I realise what I've been missing in my courtship rituals -- I haven't been clear enough.

I stand firmly by the assertion that if you call someone a 'man-ape gone wrong thing,' it's actually code for wanting to have hot monkey sex with that person.
