Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Allyson doesn't do ANYTHING passive-aggressively (thank God). She's just not all that jazzed about the film. That has nothing to do with the film and all to do with her own feelings. I AM jazzed and don't share her feelings, but why should I? I'd hate for her to be dishonestly enthusisastic if that's not what she feels. One of the things I prize so highly about this place is that people share their honest opinion about things. Jessica and I disagree all the time in the movies thread, but I love reading her opinions because she is smart and passionate, just like Allyson. Not everyone has to love what I love. The fact that 95% of the folks on this board are indifferent about The Avengers won't change the fact that I love the show and won't affect the enjoyment I get from it.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

The fact that 95% of the folks on this board are indifferent about The Avengers won't change the fact that I love the show and won't affect the enjoyment I get from it.

What? Can that possibly be true? 95% indifferent to the hottitude of Emma Peel? the casual elegance of John Steed? Hard to believe.

I KNOW, Burrell! Shocking, isn't it?

"It's got to be the hair, Cotton. It's beautiful! Feathered and lethal. You just don't see it nowadays." Pepper Brooks - Dodgeball

Well, just a comment - this is the Firefly/Serenity Worship thread, yes? So, uh, it does come across as a little passive/aggressive to be even mildly anti in this thread.

And while I can't speak for anybody else, that does seem a little....odd to me. (Although I do understand enough to realize that Allyson has benefit of some insider's information that might not otherwise be available to the rest of us, and therefore the possibility that she might contribute more than a mild dissaffection - although even that may be overstating the case - makes her posts interesting to me.)

Not that I think there ought to be thread policing and the booting of persons not breathlessly awaiting Serenity from said thread. Just merely that if it is noticeable to peripatetic lurkers and semi-random participants such as myself, I can understand why it might be a bit more obvious to somebody else.

I'm not trying to imply that Allyson may or may not be a bad person for not being a Serenity wingnut, either.

Gawd. I'm trying to walk a fine line here - being fairly uninvolved in the whole Buffistas thing and not having the history here that others might, I am completely and utterly aware that I've probably stepped in muck up to my hips. I don't know people here that well, and I am pretty neutral on the whole "did she or didn't she" issue, to be completely honest, but then again, if I can see it, perhaps there's the possibility that others have seen it too.

Again, not convinced it's either good or bad, it's just observable.

Anyway. I think I'll bug out of this one from now on. I've thrown in my two cents, let the interest accrue. ;-D

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Well, just a comment - this is the Firefly/Serenity Worship thread, yes?

No. God no. We don't have "worship" threads, in fact, I can go on at length in here about how badly The Trainjob blew, and I'm exactly in the right thread for that.

I do need some clarity on what Frank is saying, because he's bothered by my apathy or what he sees as passive aggressive swipes, and I can't address his feelings until I'm less puzzled.

Like ita, the most fascinating part was that he twice brought up The Inside:

>OK Allyson, I've been avoiding this, but, seriously, you've been dissing the SERENITY movie in passive/agressive terms for months while you've been pimping The Inside (and really, there is no other term for it, though, YES, I'm jonesing for it like all the other Minear-heads).

And then:

>It's not anything to do with THE INSIDE that bothers me, but the putting down of SERENITY that seems to be there bothers me in comparison. It may be imagined, but Allyson's comments on the movie haven't been much in the positive mode.

It bothers Frank that I'm "putting down" Serenity in comparison to "pimping" The Inside.

Is it a weird BNF issue? Am I supposed to blindly cheerlead every Whedon or Minear project?

I just need more adjectives and a couple of verbs and nouns from Frank to address his feelings and discuss it with him.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

No. Worship. Threads.

Discussion threads, no worship. Not here. That's not ... not right.

Here are the posts of Allyson's in this thread (I'm too lazy to go back into the previous thread, but it'd be nice if there were cites from the people who see the dissing):

I don't care about the Pan Pacific Grand Prix.

OMG. I just added another $100 to my Amazon shopping cart of the cutest kids books. Two of them about stinky dogs, a couple about monsters, and one or two about being grumpy.

CUTE CUTE CUTE!!!!!

Thanks all for the recommendations.

I think it's 12/9

I don't care about the Pan Pacific Grand Prix.

On the other hand, I'm terribly afraid the suits will muck it up, and I want to see Joss's vision intact.

There's always the Director's Cut on DVD.

I am home. I am having soup and bread for supper, and screw the diet, I WILL HAVE THE VANILLA ICE CREAM AND HOT BUTTERSCOTCH.

I don't care about the Pan Pacific Grand Prix.

Sure, talk bad story about a Firefly actor. You could kill a thread, too.

I think he's sort of a wingnut, Gus. I'll stand by that.

NO ONE ASKED ME TO WRITE ANYTHING.

Hurrumph. See if I try and save your next show, Whedon.

I'm so breaking up with you.

I don't care about the Pan Pacific Grand Prix.

I got an email from the serenity site, and the heading was, "A Message from Joss"

I remember way back when he used to just come and post. Thems were the days.

I think I'll unsubscribe, because it freaked me out. It's like those broadcast emails I get from the head honcho, A MESSAGE FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR

I'm such a rebel. I have those forwarded to the trash bin.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I think Allyson's been passive-aggressively dissing the Pan Pacific Grand Prix.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

God, that formatting killed me.

Also, the Fireflyed out commente seemed to be a response to the Firefly comic. But I dunno.

I gotta agree with PC. It's the Grand Prix she's dissing.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

If I may make so bold, he's mentioning what I've also noticed, which is that Allyson may've been more subtextually than actually "dissing" Firefly (although being "Fireflyed out" may not be a literal slam, to some of us it does not advertise the true love and obsession that many of us share).

This sentence, it irks. I've walked the walk in terms of love for Firefly. In fact, I ran the marathon. Which may explain my tiredness.

I haven't been tiptoeing around it, but to be clear, I just don't think the show translates to the big screen. I think if you're not a fan going into it, you'll not so much be in love coming out of it.

I do think the film will serve fans well, in that you'll get to see these characters one more time, and get some answers about some mysteries the show wasn't able to cover because it got shot down so soon.

Oddly, I'm seeing the door closed/window opened of it. If Firefly was still going, I wouldn't be hugging scripts for The Inside so tightly, and I'm in love with The Inside. Tim got to do his own thing, and that's a good thing.

With Firefly, I didn't love or respect the show until Out of Gas, but this one had me at hello, before I ever saw a script when he was yammering on about it with excitement (Bob likes carrots), and I thought, "hm. I wonder what Tim will wear to the Emmys. I'm gonna throw an Emmy party so we can all squeal at the teevee when they call his name."

And yet, I expect many Buffistas will hate it as much as I love it. And I'll be sad, because, like when Jessica wasn't so keen on Firefly, I missed having her voice in the conversation.

It doesn't mean they can't discuss why they're unhappy with it, in fact, I'd love to know more and talk about it.
