Well, since I don't really have the choice - over sugared will 1) put me to sleep and 2) cause nerve damgae - I had to retrain the taste buds. While I don't love any artifical sweetners, splenda will do in things like diet soda, since soda is such an artifical flavor anyway. other things - I make myself if possible - so I know what sugar is in them.
Spike's Bitches 21 Gunn Salute
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
beth, I'm waiting for the diabetes to hit. It's only a matter of time with these genes anyway. I've transitioned to artificial sweeteners but giving up my carbs and my pastries will wait until my doc says "if you eat this, you will DIE."
Hell, they've told my mother that a thousand times and she still doesn't listen.
So we watched Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. Funny.
And now I have a full frontal headache threatening to tear my forehead into pieces. Not fun. Must go find Excedrin. And a diet coke.
Ooh, Cash, was it hard giving up the diet Coke while pregnant? I don't drink sodas, so I didn't have to deal with that one. But as for coffee, I still drink my cup in the morning. Or some of it at least. Once it gets cold, it turns me off.

give them up. no way.
reduce signifigantly - that's another matter. I am very, very picky about my sweets, now.
and really, watching the glucose numbers, drops the pounds. - the less I weight ( about 15/20 lbs minus my original weight) the more room I have to eat what I like.
Honestly though, it is the thought of going blind that makes it easy( easyish)
I have internet again. Go figure.
Susan -- congrats on the money making!

Yeah. I allowed myself one caffeine-free diet coke a day, though.

When I got gestational diabetes, it was WAY easier to give stuff up than if it was just for me. And by sticking to the diet, I ended up not having to worry about losing the baby weight. I daresay if I even tried to follow a little bit of the diet I had when I was pregnant (minus the extra 400 calories a day they allowed me), I'd drop an extra 5lbs without trying too hard.
Without the incentive of the baby though, I just dropped into old habits too easily.
Today I spent going through Mom's garage and figuring out what furniture from there I want when I move. And drawing diagrams and seeing where stuff will go.
Thanks to Mom I won't have to buy any furniture at all. I just had no idea how much stuff she's collected. Most of the furniture is from garage sales or side of the road so there is going to be a lot of work, but I can't wait for that.
If I am not checking my numbers, it is easy to ignore everything. If I am checking my numbers, even once a day - I can tell the difference in how I feel - so it is easier. and , the weight falls off. Before I was lucky if I was very strict - to lose 1/2 a pound a week. If I watch the numbers - the weight will come off at 1 - 2 lbs a wek. It is a woierd little circl that feeds itself really nicely. Sadly, my last test ( the one that messures the three month numbers) was a bit too hihg. I am really hopeing it was being sick for 6 weeks is what did it and thing will go back to where they should be again .
I never did say yay! money to Susan
and Yay! furniture to askye.
and there is now a jucuzzi tub in my back yard , from JavaCat's sister. for some reason driving over an hour for a good deal on a tub was extreamly funny. Esp. since in included dirt roads. When we start redoing the bathroom I hope it remains funny.
Mom has this patchwork quilt top made with very 60s/early 70s looking fabrics -- she's had it forever and I never knew where she got.
Turns out she made it from scraps of material she had used to make her clothes. She's going to finish the quilt at some point and give it to me.
She made a lot of our clothes when we were younger, but I don't think many of those were saved.
