RAPID CITY, S.D. - A buffalo that escaped from an auction ended up in a dressing room at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center where it spent a couple of hours staring into a mirror.
The buffalo jumped over a steel panel during the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo on Sunday morning, went down an alley and got into the dressing room reserved for visiting sports teams, said Brian Maliske, the civic center's general manager.
"The door happened to be unlocked and he pushed the door open and went in," Maliske said.
The crew conducting the Black Hills Classic Buffalo Sale decided to keep the animal locked in the dressing room for the rest of the auction. During its two hour stay, it reportedly became fascinated with the image it saw in a big mirror.
Once the sale ended, a rodeo crew member coaxed the buffalo out of the dressing room and back into captivity.
The animal never got into a public area, Maliske said.
A huge buffalo, standing in the middle of lockers and benchs, staring at itself in the mirror. This pleases me.
The worst thing was the jerk who drove around me as I struggled to stand and took my place at the ATM.
Are you kidding me? Special hell, dude. Special hell. Feel good, Sumi!
Gronklies all. It seems like the cold + sinus infection for them as gits it has been going around. I have been fighting the infected sinuses of doom this past week. I've had antibiotics since Thursday, and although I am somewhat better, I'm still foggy and not that great at the thinky, even though I am back at work. One of my colleagues was asking me all kinds of detailed financial questions yesterday and I finally had to tell him to quit it. Tomorrow, I need to be a Subject Matter Expert (read: local grunt we need to pretend to have consulted) for a big government-wide software rollout. That should be entertaining.
Timelies all - just popping in for a drive-by, and to say thanks for the words of support last week. Helps a lot, it does.
{{{askye}}} What a difficult situation.it's such a hard problem to even be aware of - it took forever for us to figure out that a similar thing was going on with my grandmother and her husband, that he was irrational and emotionaly abusive and her health was suffering. I'm glad to hear that your dad is with you on there being a problem.
Yay Deena, on PT and getting paid and everything!
I've never found anything to help with congrestion. I just complain a lot until it clears up on its own or is clearly not going away and I go to the doctor and they give me something that either fixes it or doesn't. I am Jack's complete inability to help.
Yikes, sumi, that sucks. Idiot ATM place stealer.
I have concrete steps with no railing in front of my house and every time I go down them I think how I could fall and hit my head and die. Every morning. And today it's raining, so, even more so. I've only ever actually fallen once and just banged my knees up, but I can't stop the brain from picturing the hea trauma. So, very glad you escaped that fate, sumi.
What a jerk, Sumi. I'm glad you're not hurt worse.
Timelies!
I had to go to the doctor yesterday and when I got back, Greg, who stayed with the kids, said he's never staying alone with Doctor Kara again. It seems she took the tools from her tool kit, added them to her doctor kit, and after examining him, "cut off" both legs, both arms, and down from his neck into his chest. I told him I was very sorry to hear it, and she stomped her foot and said, "Well I gave you a sticker!"
This morning, for breakfast, I gave Aidan a bowl of banana slices in front of the television. He ate all but three slices, and then brought me the bowl and pulled on me until I picked him up. Then he picked up a slice of banana and pushed it against my lips. I ate it; he watched me chew for a second and then said, "MMMMMMM!", so I had to say "MMMMMM", and then he did it with the last two. Open, chew, "Mmmmmmmmm," yucky ripe banana. He was very pleased with me.
Anybody else ever find they gave somebody they're writing about a problem they are actually having? Without realizing it?
I do it all the time. I figure I am getting writing done AND wrestling with my demons at the same time, so why fight it? It's like mental multi-tasking.
Just saying hi before I run off to work.
Hi!
Hi Heather!
Deena, glad that Aidan thinks you are a "good eater."
Sumi, that guy sucks, and I'm sorry about your fall.
I am reading the menu for Ming Tsai's Blue Ginger [link] and drooling.
I am going to make a reservation to go there for our 3 year anniversary (of our first date) in May. YUM!
Open, chew, "Mmmmmmmmm," yucky ripe banana. He was very pleased with me.
I'm so glad you're learning to eat solid food, Deena.
(Awwwh. Cute.)
