So my parents were both originally in India. Soon after they got married, my mom came to America (San Francisco) while my dad finished medical school. This was in the late seventies. Yet, I'm thinking my mom may have already been in SF before then because I'm pretty sure she and her siblings went to Galileo High School. But anyway. That still would have been early seventies when her family came over.

After my dad came over (fairly certain that was his first time, as most of his family stayed in India for quite a while), they lived with my mom's parents for a bit. I was born in San Francisco, and there's a funny story about being out social visiting and having to tear down the bloody highway to get to the hospital.

My dad's a psychiatrist, and so now he was in the market for residencies. The first one was in Northampton, which is the farthest back I can remember. The second one was in Pittsburgh, where I schooled up to second grade. Then, finally, he got a job in Arlington, Texas. Where we remain. (My grandparents, who live with my mom's oldest brother, are in Belmont, about twenty minutes south of SF.)

So I didn't officially "grow up" in Texas, but I was there since I was seven, so I figure I'm Texan enough.

glad vw has gone back to sleep, Logan airport is closed like a closed thing anyway. Worried about Jen. State of Emergency doesn't apply to hospital workers who have to drive to the hospital in order to get there? Gah. It's evil looking outside. Happily I am inside, watching local news (the news is the weather) as is my fave thing to do during storms when I'm safe at home.

I hate to miss church Nonian, and usually because I want to go, but on those days I don't want to go for whatever reason, I feel badly about it, too. Last night, we decided we weren't going to church, regardless of whether or not it was canceled today. Try to remember that everything we go to church for (fellowship, worship, education) can be done in other ways and at other times. Talking to Joe? You only get that when you get it.

Wow, we just got an incredible gust of wind. The room I'm in has windows on three walls, and our house is surrounded by trees. It was a little scary for a moment, there.

I'm nervous about trees falling too.

All the churches are closed here. The plow dude just came and i had to shovel at least a foot of snow from behind my car to get out. Last I heard we were looking at about 24 inches of snow in my pocket of Maine.

I can't believe I have a snow day!! Of course, it's hugely inconvinient, because I had a huge floorset going on tonight which I'm going to have to reschedule ASAP. I had such a good crew, too. Sigh.
