Susan, I'm not an experienced parent by any means, but in a few families that I babysat for, when the kids got to that stage, if the parents couldn't get the baby to stay still on the changing table, they'd change them on a changing pad on the floor, so they didn't have to worry about falling.

Too big for the changing table. You need four hands? Use your legs. I used to sit down on the floor, trap my sons leg's under mine (sit with your legs apart, one of her legs under one of yours), and it gave me a fighting chance. She may still try to flip over, but it may delay her enough that you actually get the diaper changed. Good luck.

And, ugh. I'm freaking myself out now, because I'm getting some chest pains, which I'm 99.9% sure are just heartburn or something, but given what I know of my family history, this is still freaking me out.

I was just doing my catch-up before bed and Hil's suggestion is what I do. Aidan kicks and screams. It's quite a challenge to change him. I put him on the floor, give him a toy or something that intrigues him, and then change him as fast as I can.

eta: Oh yes, and use legs, arms, a heavy book... whatever. (Okay, not the book, he'd ruin it.)

I would have killed Connie's not-so-DH too, were he mine. Of course, mine had me take a taxi home from the emergency room after I broke my leg because he didn't want to leave work unless it was a real emergency. He still gets crap about that from his boss. (Obviously I haven't forgotten it either.)

Yeah, but then if she got loose, there would be shit on the floor, and not contained to the easily washable changing table.

I managed to change the diaper, but not to re-dress her. Fortunately it's warm in here, so I don't feel guilty about leaving her in a onesie and a diaper. I do, however, feel guilty for yelling at her, which I did. It's not like a 10-month old baby is old enough to consciously choose to be bad. She's just following her instincts to explore and move. But I wish I could just get her to understand there's a time and a place when she has to BE STILL.

Susan, do you have a yoga mat? You could use it on the floor, for those extra-wiggly floor sessions.
