What is even happening?

Jilli, I have been wanting to ask. I hope his news gets better. Holding a good thought for both of them.

Now their friends are organizing who is going to be with her at all times, who can prepare and drop off food for her on what days, and who can be the back-up people for the front-line supporters.
I feel so helpless. I'm waiting for email to tell me when/where/what I'm needed for.
A woman in our church was in a horrible accident, we weren't sure she'd make it, and even once she stabilized, her condition was serious. A bunch of the women bought gift cards for her husband and daughter, for take out places that serve food-food (not fast food) and restaurants between their house and the hospital, so that they could stop for convenience, and not have to worry about the all the money spent. I don't know if that's something you could do for your friend.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

My friend has taken a turn for the worse, and they've kicked his wife out of the ICU waiting room; the doctors informed her that her hubby is going to be in the ICU for quite a while, and that she cannot live in the waiting room, no matter how much she wants to. Now their friends are organizing who is going to be with her at all times, who can prepare and drop off food for her on what days, and who can be the back-up people for the front-line supporters.

Oh, crap. I'm so angry with the universe on her behalf. I mean, is it too much to ask for it to just lay the hell off her for a while?

And I'm sorry the ICU staff are being such asshats. I don't see why the hell she can't live there if she wants to.

Well, I can kind of understand, because honestly? She'll be better off not *constantly* being there. And I'm (once again) extremely impressed with a couple of my close friends, because they've got a spreadsheet set up on a website to organize who will be with her, who is bringing food on which days, which people are 'on call' at what times. I just wish there was more I could do right now.

That is a very good idea, and I will check with the Organizing Duo to see if that is something that can be done.

Jilli, much ~ma for your friend. She must be so scared right now.

Is anyone around who can pester the hospital about giving her a place to rest that isn't the ICU but still in or very near the hospital? It seems like they'd have an alternative for her so she can be there at a moment's notice if something happens.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Jilli.

It's possible the hospital even has some sort of hostel arrangement nearby. I know the main hospital in Madison has one right across the street. We used it when my brother was in the hospital with cancer. That way one person could stay with Mike for a while, while the other crashed in the room. It was either very cheap or even free, I don't remember as my parents paid for it if anyone did.

What is even happening?

If she's not too far away from the hospital, she could probably use a night at home, even if it is spent dreading the phone's ring.
