Death is your art. You make it with your hands day after day. That final gasp, that look of peace. And part of you is desperate to know: What's it like? Where does it lead you? And now you see, that's the secret. Not the punch you didn't throw or the kicks you didn't land. She really wanted it. Every Slayer has a death wish. Even you.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I used to have that long haul to memorial day - HATED IT! That is what drove me to start taking vacations in Feb.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Sniffle. I used to do the annual President's Day weekend vacation to attend the Bronze Posting Board Party. February is gonna feel very odd this year.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I have to horde my vacations days, in case the trip to Greece in June actually happens. Luckily, the Feds have a fair number of three day weekends scattered throughout the year.

No MLK day off here. I'm at that nasty point where the next day we're closed is Memorial Day.

Yup. I'm in the same boat.

Is 10 holidays a year pretty standard? Because I'm wondering what we don't get off to make room for Mardi Gras. I always thought it was Memorial Day, but that's on the list this year.

We get Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years plus two "personal holidays". So 10 is generous in my book.

but my problem is not so much no days off technically as finding 6 weeks that my company can spare me so as not to lose the vacation days that won't roll over.

This is me, though 4 weeks instead of 6. But I normally just have to take random days off here and there throughout the year to not lose any of my time.

Back to the radio station thing, I still mourn the loss of Rock 103.5 here in Chicago and it's been years.

Has anyone ever sold stuff (used books) through Amazon? I want to unload books in a way that maximizes my income while minimizing my hassle.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

So 10 is generous in my book.

Good to know. These are city holidays, I don't think I had this many when I worked for corporations.

I'm still sad about The Underground (99.9 in Sacramento) going away. Must be 10 years ago that it got bought out and switched over to Spanish language programming. They told the listeners about a week in advance, and the DJs had complete freedom to play and do whatever the wanted on the air. The last song was the Sex Pistol's version of My Way.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Arghh! We are having a meeting here in early February of an outside advocacy group the company owner is a member of and deeply beleives in. I am in charge of all the MANY details of the meeting, which I don't mind, but the only room here large enough to have it is where the caption editors work. I figured out a way for them to have people captioning during the meeting, but the Ops manager is still being very pissy that we won't get our work done (now, I have arranged for three captioners to work that day if needed, even though we usually only have ONE).

When I questioned him what we could do about making things easier his response is "I don't think we should have the meeting here in the first place and I'm not gonna be involved." I pointed out moving the meeting offsite was not gonna work considering that one of the people working with complex equipment which would have to be moved is IN A WHEELCHAIR and the meeting attendees are all blind or deaf, he said he still felt it was an imposition. Well, it IS, but if we all chipped in a did a little extra it would be much less of an imposition, and he can't see that.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

mearaing:

Hey LA people, if you were going to drive somewhere for a weekend, just to get away, where would you go? I'm thinking Vegas, but where else is good.
My GF and I like to go up to Hearst Castle. You can stay for a night and do a Castle tour and then shop in Cambria. A nice getaway. (Though I think you were just there, so nevermind.)

okay, also? TRAFFIC today? Hellish. I mean, beyond hellish.

Damn the driving in LA is sucking right now. They can't get Laurel Canyon and Coldwater Canyon open soon enough.

And ND nails it. Traffic is so nightmarish because many canyon roads are/were closed. It took me 45 minutes just to get to the FWY from my house on Mon, Tues and Wed. This is usually about an 8 minute jaunt. ARGH! Today was better.

I really want 24 to do a couple of episodes wherein Jack is stuck in traffic the whole time.

This? Hysterical.

Small, red-eared slider turtle with 80-gallon tank for free to a good home.

Lee, I immediately thought of the cats going fishing. Petri managed to snag a couple of fish when I had my aquarium set up.

I have two cats and two aquariums. Cats have never been able to get into aquariums. One cat doesn't show any interest in the fishies at all. Go turtle! Choose turtle!

I do not have MLK day off. Damn it. But I do have Presidents Day.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I've got MLK off, and I'm taking a personal day tomorrow. Go team 4-day weekend!

Two years ago we lost President's Day, Patriot's Day (which is pretty much only celebrated in Mass. and Maine), and Columbus day because our clients in other states didn't take them. However, we got 3 additional personal days as recompense. Which reminds me, I need to request Patriot's off as coming into Boston on Marathon Monday (and there's always a big Sox day game too) is of the suck.

Not having has never been the thing I've regretted most in my life. Not trying is.

he said he still felt it was an imposition.
