I came out to my sister this year. That's one of the hardest things I've ever done. She didn't speak to me for a week, but the crappiness of that week was so worth it when she told me she loved me no matter what. She just wished I'd told her sooner.
Yay for the happy ending, and for your courage and wisdom to be yourself around those you love, SA.
...
2004 for me?
Let's see...It was better than 2003 was, for our family. I can say that, hands down. When compared to much of the world, we want for nothing we need, and little (save extreme luxury) that we would like to have.
The world is a scary place, but I think that has always been true.
I just know it was the only year in my lifetime about which I can say that the Boston Red Sox won the World Series, never mind that they swept the Cardinals in the doing, and came back after being down three games to the New York Yankees in the ALCS, in order to do so. My father never had that.
Shallow? Sure. Sometimes.
Sweet fancy Moses, Cindy! How did I leave that out.
Seriously, the Sox winning the series. One of the best weeks EVER.
(and exhausting, even, or maybe especially for our non-baseball Buffistas)

Agreed. I still bliss out just thinking about it.
My dad brought a NESN produced DVD about the entire Red Sox season, from spring training to the team's welcome home and victory parade. I cried like a baby through it.

Note to TomW: Remember that single tear of joy your wife shed on your wedding day? Now you know where you stand. :)
So says a Mets fan. WITH A HEART OF STONE!
Hey, you've got to factor in the difficulty. The laws of God and Nature didn't have to be overturned for Tom and Nora to wed!
I had the most wonderful transition from '04 to '05.
On the last day of '04, I met my first buffista in person (other than AnotherAlaskan, who is wonderful, but doesn't count because I knew him before). I had a great time with Java Cat, poking around town. Then, on the first day of '05, Java Cat showed me around Berkeley and I got to meet Consuela too. Whoot!
Java Cat stopped by my dad's place afterwards, and after she left, my cousin noted that I have nice people on the board I post to, and perhaps he might need to switch. I agreed that buffistas are the bestest.
I'm hopeful that I may get to meet more buffistas before heading home, but even if I don't, this is the perfect start to a new year.
