See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Aw, poor surly Drew. LA sounds like your ideal climate.

Though, of course, the SF Badness totally depends on what neighborhood you're in--right down to which block. Where I work? Mostly foggy, 3-4 hours of direct sunlight a day if we're lucky. Where I live, 1 block east and 1 block north? Same fog, but 5-10 degrees warmer, generally. Exactly 4 blocks east of where I work is Cole Valley, also generally warmer and with an extra 2-3 hours of sunlight. The Mission? Markedly more sun than fog. Downtown/SOMA, right by the new baseball stadium and all the now-empty housing built right before the dotcom bust? Temperate, warm, bright and lovely.

And three blocks west of me, where I used to live, you can go days or weeks at a time all year long without seeing the sun full-on. One of my best friends lived out at the beach for 6 years, and exactly twice, ever, when I went out to visit her was it warm and sunny.

SF weather = generally craxy, and can be very depressing, and trying to keep track of the microclimates can make your head spin.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

and trying to keep track of the microclimates can make your head spin.

For those of us who don't live there, though, it's actually part of the charm of visiting. However, I love SF so completely I'd live anywhere in it no matter what microclimate I was subject to.

Our wings are not tired

Yeah, San Diego is a bit better for me climate-wise, but I like the energy in LA more. Also, this is where there's more work for me.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

I actually find LA has the nice feel to the weather - but that's because it's on the ocean. If it gets too hot when I'm visiting, we head out to Santa Monica, or down to Newport Beach.

SF microclimates are completely nuts. The general saying is, if you don't like the weather, cross the street.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Hee, we say that in Michigan, too!!

Always Anti-fascist!

This is true...I just said I would...maybe we could do that sometime, flip the dates or something.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

It seems to be hot no matter what side of the street I'm on, frankly.

I'm getting the pig!

Erika, I still fully believe you should pimp Phoenix. Like Liese and NoiseDesign have said, some people like the heat and actually thrive in it. You never know how many others feel the same way until the votes are in.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Ok, so, I want City Pimpage (tm) by the close of business PST on the 22nd. We will vote from the 26th through the 29th in the evening (It's finals for me, so I can't guarantee a specific time)

City Pimpage (tm) Format(everyone please give feedback on this):

City

  • Hotel blurbs (cost, ammenities, Prom & HS plans, parking, etc), plus a few Things to Do in the immediate area. Try to keep it short.
  • Alternate Hotel Stuff option: what we're looking at being able to get for each/any price level (all under $99/room). *
  • Transportation (public transit, especially. Where does it go? It is reliable? Easy to navigate?)
  • Number of locals and/or approximate free beds available
  • Anything else you'd like to highlight (or that other people have highlighted.)
  • Concerns, based on the above and other discussion.

(* I will be wicked pissy if you give us a list of all the ammenities of all the hotels in that range and don't say, "more or less any 3 of the following", or something. Don't be pitching us pool and free full breakfast if we won't be able to get both in one place.)

For those just joining the pimping: the rules of the hotel-choosing:

  • Rooms must be available in the hotel for under $100
  • High-Speed Internet must be available in the room
  • The hotel must have easy access (through proximity or public transit) to things to do
  • Easy Handicapped access, especially to Hospitality Suite and Prom Room
  • Prom venues must be within staggering distance of the hotel, if not within the hotel itself

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I sent our IFB (what DOES that stand for?) to Seattle's convention bureau this morning and already heard back from them with a few clarifying questions. Knock wood that this is a sign of things to come.
