I think we should consider the expense of flights and hotels together price-wise.
This is not a terrible suggestion, but it's very difficult to really consider both costs together because every city will cost a different amount of money to fly to from all the other cities, Trudes. Unless we pick a city with no nearby buffistas at all, the cost for some is going to be zero, and for others, it's going to be Ginormous!-Prohibitively!Expensive.

That's why middle-of-the-country choices always seem like the best idea to me.
And before anyone speaks up to remind me that this year is the West Coast's turn, I'm aware of that. Yay, West Coast. Still, considering how few people were able to make it to this year's F2F (and I know that I'm not the only one who couldn't make it due to finances), my opinion is that making it in a more centralized location every year might not be such a bad idea.
Well, in the name of "some rough idea" we could do an orbitz combo search from a handful of scattered cities to our leading destinations.
As far as the nearby thing, well yeah that'll varry -- that's why we move it around.
flights are so wierd. I can get to SF for under $300, but NO is almost as expensive for half the distance!
Who flies into Seattle? Any of the big discounters? And is there just the one major airport? I think this was a big part of the problem for people trying to swing N.O. I'd love Seattle if it's workable, though.
ETA: Ok, quick look at Orbitz shows Southwest, AmericaWest, Fronteir, etc., so that's at least one step ahead of N.O. as far as the possibility of cheap flights.
I just checked Midway to Seattle on Southwest ranges from $100 to $250 for a ticket 30 days out. Not too bad.

Whereas NOLA was less expensive for me than the trips I've taken to Oakland or Burbank.
With seats to fit everyone's fine asses, and more legroom for the taller amongst us (tommyrot, Gus, Kalshane...).
I'm definitely interested, especially if it'll be in either SF or Seattle! I can tack on a week visiting a college friend in the SF area, or my sister in Seattle, so I'm flexible there!
Maybe the LAistas can rent a big ole RV and drive to wherever.
