SMB is just the name of the protocol. Apple supports it by using Samba.
From the Tiger Technical Brief: "Mac OS X for UNIX Users"
SMB/CIFS, Microsoft’s proprietary Server Message Block/Common Internet File System
file service, is the primary file sharing protocol for Windows. Mac OS X includes Samba,
the popular open source SMB server, to enable Windows users to access files on Mac
computers. In addition, BSD-based SMB client support in Mac OS X gives Mac users the
ability to browse and connect to Windows file servers and volumes.

Aw man. Why am I never in Times Square when this sort of thing happens?
Can I just kill everybody at Microsoft (not counting beloved peeps)?
I tried to launch MSN messenger on the computer (desk-lamp iMac running OSX, not sure of the version) and every time I do, it tells me there's a newer version, and I
must
download and use that version if I wish to use MSN messenger.
Every time I do, the stupid dowloader deposits a Messenger.bin.uncompressed file that my computer hasn't a clue how to open.
I tehn tried to download the lates version directly from the site. I installed it and ran it, and it's still telling me I need to download a newer version, or I can't play with the other kids. Then, when I go ahead and download, it deposits the same stupid .bin.uncompressed file that my computer doesn't know how to handle.
Are they fucking with me? Is someone at Microsoft trying to do the internet equivalent of pointing at my shirt and then flicking my nose when I look down? Someone in Redmond must die for this transgression. Meanwhile, anyone here have any knowledge or advice to impart?
Sorry for the double post. Not sure why that happened.
I think a .bin can be opened with Stuffit. Have you tried deleting the ".uncompressed" bit from the extension?
Use something other than MSN messenger? There must be a Mac equivalent to Trillian, right?
There's Adium, but I've never used it.
