I'll try MtR again -- I haven't fiddled with all the settings, so I might have missed something.
I didn't think about ffmpegx either, so I can try that when I get home.
Thanks for the tips!

This. Handbrake seems to think that the entire disc is only 22 minutes long. When I get home, I'll see if there are other settings to try.
Was this a "mass produced" disk, or is it a blank disk that someone burned? I don't know anything about DVD burning, but if it's the latter, maybe it's a multi-session DVD and the second session hasn't been closed yet?
It's a press screener, so it's cheap, but professionally produced.
Slashdot:
dotwhynot writes "Molecular electronics, a realm once considered science fiction, could be heading for our computers and devices sooner than thought. A new report on the technology roadmap of the chip industry finds a growing confidence in new nanotechnology, and forecasts that the transition to the post-silicon era could happen by 2015. The development of nanoswitches has already reached a point where it will be possible to manufacture them reliably at low cost. Intels goal over the next decade is to build chips that hold more than one trillion switches."
That last sentence - wow!
Okay, is anyone having trouble with Itunes Music Store and/or ipodder?
I just went to the Ubuntu site to download the distro, and they say
"Ubuntu" is an ancient African word, meaning "humanity to others".
Oy. That's so specific. Even less specific than "ancient European word" would be.
Still downloading the distro, but I'm going to be looking at them funny.
The music store isn't giving me any problems, LeN.
Bullshitty naming aside, what drew you to Ubuntu? (I'm still on Fedora, which I neither love nor hate enough to bother with a whole reinstallation.)
OTOH, I'm playing around with switching from Gnome to KDE (or rather, I will be as soon as yum gets off its damn ass). Anyone out there use it? Any favorite apps or tips?
Gud, really. And then a meatspace geek got me excited about the idea of having Linux in-house again. So, I'll download, I'll go to Fry's and get a new big HD and give it a go.
Gotcha. Incidentally, the kubuntu FAQ claims that the name is Bemba (which is from Zambia, and that's all I know about it).
I emailed info@ubuntulinux.org to whine.
I blame the headache.
Download continues.
