Gud, really. And then a meatspace geek got me excited about the idea of having Linux in-house again. So, I'll download, I'll go to Fry's and get a new big HD and give it a go.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
Gotcha. Incidentally, the kubuntu FAQ claims that the name is Bemba (which is from Zambia, and that's all I know about it).
I emailed info@ubuntulinux.org to whine.
I blame the headache.
Download continues.
ffmpegx, Mac the Ripper, and Handbrake all agree that there is only one episode on this DVD.
I think the easiest way to copy this is just going to be to take it to work with me. (Where I have a DVD player hooked up to a FCP system, and nothing whatsoever to do tomorrow.)
Actually, I'm using SUSE now, but I rather like Ubuntu as well. I liked Gnome better at first, but after trying both KDE and Gnome I eventually started liking KDE better. However Kubuntu seemed a little buggy (unlike Ubuntu), so that pushed me toward SUSE.
Okay, I still can't access the itunes music store and I'm having problems with ipodder. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Wireless router here. I've unplugged the dang thing and reinstalled itunes to no avail.
Did your issue clear up, LeN? I have no help to offer, sadly.
I'm looking to buy a new HD for the PC that is going to become Linuxed up. What's the most reliable brand these days? I'm looking for something in the 100-200 GB range, speed is good, but quiet is better.
I buy nothing buy Seagate for my machines and have had wonderful luck with them. These are drives that are streaming audio and video all the time, so they get worked pretty hard.
Of course now that I've said this I'm just asking for an HD crash.
Hmm. Outpost.com has a 300GB Seagate for $135.
Thanks!
They are also very quiet. My theatrical machines have to be quiet enough to be in the house with the audience and not noticed and the Seagate drives are the only ones I'll use.
