Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
Sean, all I can suggest is go into Control Panel/System Properties/Hardware/Device Manager. Look at Keyboards and Mice (click the plus signs), right click and select "properties" and see if you can find any useful messages/errors, etc.
Um... of course, I don't know how you could test for errors if you're using USB and that's working. Maybe get a second keyboard and mouse and plug all four in, two USB and two regular, and then do the above lookup.
Thanks guys. I'm sorry to bug, I was just feeling a little blinvisible next to all the very shiny Mac toys.
Sean, the one time that happened to me it meant replacing the MB.
Ugh. I hope not. I mean, eventually I'd like to replace the computer, but that is a looooong way off at the moment. Hell, even a super cheapo USB hub is straining the budget.
one of our customer service people just demonstrated to me that sharpening a pencil in our electric pencil sharpener causes her computer to generate a message that the network cable is unplugged.
Sounds like an electric sharpener that does not conform to FCC interference rules.

Answers a lot of my questions....
Sean, I might (unless it got purged for Discardia -- I'll have to check when I get home tonight) have a hub that I'm not using any more. It's yours if you want it.
Thanks, amych. I'll send an email to the profile addy.
OK, this is a shot-in-the-dark for Sean, but are there any BIOS settings re: PS/2 keyboard and mouse that are changeable?
Hmm, I'll check that out too, tommy.
ND (or other sound people), where's a good place to buy XLR cables online? (Or offline, if they have a phone #.)
RadioShack carries them, but the prices seem really high to me.
And the radio shack ones are crap.
Try one of these Full Compass (If you call ask for Martin Vire, he's my sales rep and a greay guy), Musician's Friend, or Zzounds.
Don't fall for any of the monster cable bullshit. For premade cables you can usually get good quality ones for $15 to $20 for a 25' cable. Whirlwind is good, Mogami is good. Neutrik connectors are preferred.
