The difference between Maude & The Jeffersons is that (IIRC), Maude was introduced on AitF with the expressed purpose of spinning her off, whereas the Jeffersons were recurring characters for years before they got their own series.

I think Mork was like Maude, while L&S was like the Jeffersons.
