You were very nearly devoured by a giant demon snake. The words 'let that be a lesson' are a tad redundant at this juncture.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

I have to say, since the Doctor Who casting news was front page news on most of the UK papers (I mean, not main headline, but front page) AND it was revealed to the British public not simply on TV on the Doctor Who Confidential episode, but was considered important enough that BBC1 simulcast the show live on their outdoor screens around the country in city centre locations including Hull, Liverpool, Rotherham, Swindon, Swansea, Norwich and Walthamstow...well, trying to treat it as a spoiler, light or otherwise, seems rather like tilting at windmills. imho. ymmv.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

In the US you're pretty much OK if you keep to the headlines. "Relative Unknown to be New Doctor."

But we're treating the very fact that there's going to be a new Doctor as a spoiler.

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

But we're treating the very fact that there's going to be a new Doctor as a spoiler.

Seriously. I sincerely doubt there is a single person who reads this board who doesn't know there's going to be a new doctor.

I'm not even sure there's anyone connected to the internet who doesn't know. Well ... maybe one guy. But he's just posting Spock/Kirk slash in BASIC.

Art Crawl!!!

A friend of mine shared the news with her sister and neice and they say that actor reminds them of Tom Baker.

"What would it take to get your daughter to stop tweeting about this?"

He reminds me of someone. In his imdb picture I thought he looked like he could be the son of the Doctor that made the guest appearance with Tennent on one of those specials. I'd be more specific but I wasn't a fan of DW until Eccleston.

I think he's appropriately odd-looking, but I do find the hair a bit startling. Still, on the whole I'm fairly optimistic. He's got a good track record in theatre, and it sounds like his telly stuff has been pretty good.

I wonder who the next companion will be, and whether Ten will pick one up and hand them over to Eleven - or whether the Doctor will be wandering around sans assistant for a bit.

What a weekend to go away half way up an Alpine mountain with no tv or internet.

Anyway, I'm keeping an open mind about Mr. Smith. I thought he was good in the Philip Pullman adaptations, and he does, somehow, give off a Doctor-y vibe. I hope he makes me overlook the fact that he's WAY TOO YOUNG.

Edit: I've been wondering about the companion situation too, Fay. It would make sense to introduce one either well before or after the change of Doctor, not in the same episode, though I don't see how they're going to make it through four specials without a companion. My bet is the new companion will show up in the first special, and has already been cast.

Another edit - just read this quote by Andrew Buchan, an ex-castmate of Matt Smith's from "Party Animals", which gives me hope:

"It's a sublime bit of casting. He's got that huge hair, a twinkle in his eye - Matt's the king of geek chic. He is possibly going to be one of the best Doctors we've ever had."
