So it's a relatively recent convention? I recall being very struck by it when Buffy season 2 started.
I am pretty sure Beverly Hills 90210 also took summers off, but I am not sure whether that is new or old.
My memory was that BH 90210 actually had the summers ON, as in the season ran into the summer with episodes of the characters during summer vacation.
I am not positive at all, so I defer to a better BH90210 watcher than I!
