I also don't understand the point of the Jack gets married backstory.
My interpretation of this is that Jack is afraid of failure. He wasn't sure if he could go through with the wedding because of what might happen (i.e. marrying her because he helped her and therefore not sure if he could make it through the troubles of marriage). With Boone, he didn't want to fail to save him.
By letting go of his fear of failure he was able to move on (i.e. get married no matter the consequences & let Boone die without amputation and more pain).
I read it the way beathen did, after I got over the surprise of Jack going through with it.
Which also made it little less of an "all about Jack" thing, now that I think about it.
I think it was to show that in both cases he could let go - something they haven't let us see before, and I liked that he wasn't trying to save Boone because of something he'd failed to do in the past, ala Charlie when he shot Ethan.
eta, I can see how if you didn't have any use for Jack, that it would still be very annoying.
I still think that a controlled (surgical) amputation beats an uncontrolled (brute-force) one hands down, but cannot find the right combination of google terms to plead my case. I did discover that Civil War limb amputations were fatal only 25% of the time, and usually cut through rather than around bone; they took up to 15 minutes. Later surgeons got the time down to 2-3 minutes (including breaking the femur), although in one case this speed with a knife resulted in accidental testicle and assistant's-fingers amputations as well.
I shit you not.
Can we have some discussion regarding why Jack believes Locke murdered Boone?
In addition to what other people have said, Boone's deathbed mumblings probably made Jack suspicious, since it was clear that Locke had told Boone not to tell the others a secret, though not what the secret was.
What do people think Jack told Shannon about Boone's last words? Did he tell Shannon Boone luuuved her?
Jack knows that Boone's injuries were caused by something falling on him, not the other way around, that Locke didn't want Boone to tell something, and that Locke disappeared right after depositing Boone at the camp. I think it's a fair assumption on his part that Locke was suspiciously involved in Boone's death, even if "murdered" is a bit of a leap.
What do people think Jack told Shannon about Boone's last words?
I should think, "His last thoughts were of you" would suffice. And is true.
Did anybody catch GMA this morning?
wow, lots of amputation talk here today. That's...nice.
What do people think Jack told Shannon about Boone's last words? Did he tell Shannon Boone luuuved her?
I think he would have kept it professional without revealing too many clues.
What he would have said:
1. Boone fell
2. He had massive injuries
3. He died last night.
What he wouldn't have said:
1. Anything about a hatch or plane
2. Or Locke for that matter [because this just became personal for Jack]
3. I don't think he would have said anything about Boone saying "Tell Shannon - I..." [The thought was incomplete and would not help for closure.]
YOMV
You don't think "His last thoughts were of you" would help closure?
I think he would have said that, but nothing specific.
