'Serenity'
A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I just watched Mean Girls. I want my two hours back.
I just saw Closer. I'm really surprised by the differences between the film and the original play, though I assume they were a result of performances since everything matches up to what I remember plot-wise. I was amazed that Jude Law could turn his personal charisma down almost to zero (whereas in the play the actor I saw playing Daniel was the most charming cast member), and found Natalie Portman far too together and self-assured for her character. But it was nice to see Julia Roberts not be all smiley constantly, and Clive Owen was almost identical in both approach and appearance to the actor I saw in the live performance.

I liked the extras on the DVD better than the movie. It's just -- the movie was NOTHING like the trailer made it seem. Granted, trailers are often deliberately vague, but Mean Girls was a case of bait and switch.
Though Lindsey Lohan is a hottie.
I enjoyed Mean Girls, but can't remember what the trailers said it was. It may live fondly in my memory as the last Lohan movie before she started to bug the shit out of me.
Makes him look a bit thick, doesn't it? Like he hasn't got a neck.
He's not recognizably Bale in that photo, but then the same can be said of all the footage I've seen from The Machinist.
Just got back from House of Flying Daggers.
Pretty. Over the top, but pretty.(The choreography of the fights, the costumes, the leads, the scenery...)
Just watched The Big Chill for the first time in an eon. I used to love that movie, but I had a feeling that I wouldn't like it anymore. Like, a while after I saw it I started to look at it as sort of excusing yuppies selling out or something.
But I found I still like it a lot. Even if the two characters I relate to most are Alex and Nick....
Oh. Not the Bogart movie. Took me a little bit to figure that out. Was having trouble parsing yuppies and Bogie.
