Buffista Movies 3: Panned and Scanned

A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Ficht nicht mit Der Raketemensch!

One of them is in that Che movie I saw a trailer for, yeah? He looked familiar. and hot

OK, if you think Gael Garcia Bernal (for it is he) is hot now, you need to track down Mala Educacion the latest Almodovar film. In which you learn that he looks like Julia Roberts in drag. It's incidentally a stunningly ace film, but the GGB porn is just outrageous.

Late to the party, but I saw Spider-Man 2 last night. I liked it, though with some reservations. They piled on the Peter's double life sucks a bit thick, I thought.

OTOH, I've thought Alfred Molina was wonderful for ages (at least since Letter to Brezhnev), and this movie reminded me why.

Upthread, somebody asked why M-J was appearing in The Importance of Being Earnest. Well, it's a play about two men with assumed identities who give them up for the women they love. Hmmmm....

Ann, that's a ferret.

I think I'm more kind to K-Pax than most here. I gave it credit for trying to have a point, even if it wasn't sure what that point was.

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

We can all be reassured about I, Robot:

He sees "I, Robot" as an art house movie where his walking around naked and taking a shower with the shower door open as appropriate. "It's actually a smart art film that is masquerading as a big summer blockbuster," Smith says about the $105 million 20th Century Fox film.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Huh? Those words won't go into my brain.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I think I'm more kind to K-Pax than most here. I gave it credit for trying to have a point, even if it wasn't sure what that point was.

Just letting you know, Fred, that I'm with you. I liked it quite a bit.

And Dana, you misspelled "even more confused and/or infuriated."

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

But P-C, Will Smith says it's an art movie!

Up with the sun

Huh? Those words won't go into my brain.

I think the important words are "Will Smith" and "naked."

Yes, but the reasons given for Will Smith being naked are strange and off-putting.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

"It gives a certain level of reality when you know that that much thought went into it -- and even if you don't, it's just kind of a cool to see a naked guy," he says with a laugh.

See, this kind of makes me want to see the movie.
