Thomash, it's Crothers.

Hey. New board.

No, I haven't. I hear the book is pretty different. And scarier. Stephen King's writing style makes me want to kill, though, (at least, it did in The Green Mile and The Gunslinger, which I supposedly was going to love) so I don't really intend to try it.

I have a plan.

From what I hear, the book and movie are very different. Still a good movie though.

If you want to see a more faithful adaptation of The Shining, I am led to understand that you should see the TV miniseries version, starring Steven Weber (from Wings) and Rebecca DeMornay.

Sean, you have been led correctly. I really liked that version.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Unfortunately, it lives up to the curse of every King adaptation that King gets creative control over sucking the big one. Kubrick's version wasn't very faithful, but it was heads and shoulders over the newer one.

"When I look at people that I would like to feel have been a mentor or an inspiring kind of archetype of what I'd love to see my career eventually be mentioned as a footnote for in the same paragraph, it would be, like, Bowie." ~Trent Reznor

Matt is me. The ABC version was just about castrated in terms of actual fear--Kubrick maintains the terror and gives it a much scarier feel. The ABC version is all effects and little substance. Liked Weber well enough, but the little boy bored me.

Plus, the Kubrick version features the classic Jack Nicholson line:

"Wendy, darling, light of my life. You didn't let me finish my sentence. I'm not gonna hurt you. I'm just gonna bash your brains in. I'm gonna bash 'em right. the fuck. in."

Loved that line.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

Wow, I'm with NovaChild on this one. The Shining movie: kick ass. The Shining book: shit on a stick. The Shining tv movie: has that guy from Wings. And Rebecca De Mornay. Which means I'll never, ever see it. But, y'know, to each his (or her) own tastes.

It should be noted that I'm not anti-Kubrick. I'm a fan of A Clockwork Orange and Dr. Strangelove. I haven't seen 2001 more than once, which means I have no fucking clue what it's about. Eyes Wide Shut was slow, but I didn't hate it. I liked the look of it.

I also tend to like ABC King adaptations.
