Every planet has its own weird customs. About a year before we met, I spent six weeks on a moon where the principal form of recreation was juggling geese. My hand to God. Baby geese. Goslings. They were juggled.

A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I love Time Bandits. Need to see it again, soon. I should just get all of Terry Gilliam's stuff on dvd, it's so brilliant.

"When I look at people that I would like to feel have been a mentor or an inspiring kind of archetype of what I'd love to see my career eventually be mentioned as a footnote for in the same paragraph, it would be, like, Bowie." ~Trent Reznor

You really shouldn't, dude. It's a terrible film with terrible FX, horrifying dialogue, and a contrived plot. But that's just one man's superior opinion.

Apart from sports, "my secret favorite thing on earth is ketchup. I will put ketchup on anything. But it has to be Heinz." - my husband, Michael Vartan

I think I was almost four when I first saw that movie. I was two when it came out in theatres, and we rented it. So it was not long after it had been out on video, but also not, like, the very day it came out on video. And I cried hysterically, and kept crawling into my mom's bed for months. My father, through some crazyheaded reasoning, seemed to think I needed to watch the sequels, and I hated those as well.

I no longer remember the plot at all, just that the empress (she was the sparkly girl all in white, right?) was very pretty and that the big flying pink dog made me really nervous when he roared.

So, yeah, I hate those movies, but it is probably an unreasoning hate, since I couldn't even tell you why I loathe them, since I no longer remember, but you couldn't force me to watch them again, no matter how long it's been.

I've never seen Time Bandits.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

that the big flying pink dog made me really nervous when he roared.

I remember one night at Rice we randomly brought up the issue of whether Falcor was a dragon dog or a dog dragon.

As far as I know, I am a fan of the movie. I haven't seen it in many many years, though.

I've never seen Time Bandits.

Nor have I.

Time Bandits, the MST3K'ed movie? If it's what I think it is, it's from 1993, has preposterously cheap FX, and has a five-second appearance by Lisa Kudrow. It's hilarious.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Many of the movies listed above are truly awful, but the only one I can recall walking out of at the theater for quality reasons (as opposed to me feeling queasy or somesuch) is Out Cold. Yes, this is the movie that rottentomatoes.com gave a fresh rating less than half that earned by The Cat in the Hat.

Alibelle and P-C should run right out and rent Time Bandits. I mean, c'mon! Terry Gilliam! Midgits! Sean Connery as Theseus Agamemnon!! The Ultimate Evil! God!

If I only had a brain...

No. Time Bandits, the insanely brilliant fantasy movie by the insanely great Terry Gilliam, with a cameo by Sean Connery.

Aww. The movie with Caroline Dhavernas? (Hey, and Zach Galifianakis!) That's a shame.

If it's what I think it is,

Nope. This is the Terry Gilliam movie from the 80s. Made around the same time as Brazil, and equally fucked-in-the-head, if less well known.
