Sod off - it's playing on the Magnificent Mile. Is is playing any place magnificent in SF?
A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

WTF?? Shaun of the Dead is not playing in Chicago?
Huh? Ebert reviewed it in the Sun Times and he doesn't do that if the movie hasn't opened yet (as opposed to his show where he does).
Yeah, I was relying on Yahoo Movies. Fandango found one theater in downtown Chicago.
Use the Metromix page at the Tribune's website to get a pretty accurate movie listing for Chicago and 'burbs--it's got Shaun of the Dead in 24 theaters in the area.
Oh duh. There's more theaters listed on the next page at Fandango. But I avoid going to 'burbs other than Evanston.
I guess the moral of the story is that I cannot be relied upon for accurate information on showings of Shaun of the Dead in Chicago.
And in this very thread, from me. Go see it! It's brilliantly funny.
Am going to Shaun of the Dead tonight based on your review! And the very funny interview with the filmmakers in the paper yesterday in which they referred to a Zombie zeitgeist.
Shaun of the Dead has Dawn (whose real name is Lucy Davis) from The Office in it, too, apparently.

And Tim, briefly.
I said I would get back to you on the quality of Blockbuster Online in comparison to Netflix, and now I am.
As far as I can tell, the service is at least as good as Netflix, with very quick delivery and turnaround, at least in SoCal. The DVDs seem to generally take two days to get from the distribution center to my on-campus mailbox and one day to get from the on-campus outbox to their return center. As far as I can tell, their selection is as large as Netflix's EXCEPT for the lack of NC-17 choices. They don't stock NC-17 movies as policy, so if you think you might want to watch movies of that rating then you'll need to stick with Netflix. They do stock "Unrated" DVDs, like the Unrated version of The Girl Next Door that's in my queue, so lots of movies that could have been NC-17 but were originally released as R edits are available.
For me, it's a bit better than Netflix because it's $2 a month cheaper AND the two in-store rental coupons a month is a really nice perk. And I only use it to watch old TV shows, mostly, so the NC-17 thing is really not a problem.
So, yeah. I like it. Recommended.
I just did a trial period with Blockbuster, and I didn't like them as much as Netflix, both because of the NC-17 thing (I don't watch that many NC-17 movies, but I have issues with companies deciding such things for me) and because even though the two movies I got from them were mailed out on the same day and had the same expected arrival date, one of them showed up 4 days before the other.
