I don't know if it's any good, but how much do I love that Water's new movie is an NC-17? A whole lot.

I thought it was a hilariously goofy feel-good movie. My opinion may have been slightly swayed by seeing the Baltimore premiere with the movie theatre packed with super enthusiastic hometown fans and a bunch of people who worked on the movie (incl. Mr. Waters, Selma Blair, who is wee, and Johnny Knoxville, who is hot, and Patty Hearst and Mink Stole). But, I have to say, I laughed out loud a ton. It's silly as heck. And there is way more graphic sex on non-premium cable. I don't really understand the whole NC-17 thing at all. (except in that I understand we live in a country that fines a network for allowing a woman's bare breast to be broadcast briefly.)

Oh, and to add to the hilarity of the movie, we sat behind a bunch of Hell's Angels. I was worried they would talk during the movie and I would "shush" by instinct and create Altamont in our very lovely movie theatre.

Given that Parker and Stone had to cut South Park the Movie to get an R rating, while I can't say I understand it, I'm not suprised. I'm just glad to hear he's getting extremely rude again.

Yeah. But, you know, it's still very sweet. Good hearted.

Art Crawl!!!

Does Henry Thomas sing?

Because then -- you could have a musical about gambling. . . wait.. . it could be a re-do of Guys and Dolls!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Anybody gonna go see The Forgotten? Both the theaters within walking distance of me are showing it (which is odd, as one is a total art-house theater. In fact, if you google "art-house theater" it's the second link that comes up).

"You see? THAT's what they want. Love, and a bit with a dog."

I want to see The Forgotten.

Also, the other day I went to the movies with a friend. (I wanted to see Vanity Fair or Wimbeldon. She wanted to see Wicker Park. She won.) It was a horribly horrible movie, but A) We got in free and B) No one else was in the theater, so we were free to mock as loudly as we desired. That made it great.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I'm sure Ple will be first in line.

We saw Sky Captain last night. I enjoyed it but I spent a good chunk of the movie ticking off references - which isn't as much fun a movie-going experience as it used to be, I guess. Still, that overhead shot of the flying robots was straight out of the Fleischer Brothers Superman cartoons of the 40s. Polly's character was strongly modeled on the Lois Lane of those cartoons - who is fairly conniving and career driven. Lost Horizon, King Kong, Wizard of Oz were also obviously present in various parts. Lots of covers of Gernsback's early science fiction pulps like Thrilling Wonder Tales seemed present in the robots and rockets. JZ found Angelina Jolie's lips disturbing.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Good Lord! The local art-house cinemas are showing Bright Young Things, A Dirty Shame, A Touch of Pink, AND Shaun of the Dead starting tonight. And I haven't even taken time to see Sky Captain yet. Why did they hold all these movies back from that couple of months when there was nothing decent to watch?

Shaun of the Dead looks to be fun. I loved Sky Captain - it so gleefully violated laws of physics that I just shut down the critical sciency part of my brain.

Got a rave in the local paper. Apparently a big hit in the UK.
