A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Well, please let me know, Fred. I caught the end on TCM at the beginning of the year, and it reminded me what I like and don't like about it.

I like that it inspired a Serge Gainsbourg song. I like Gene Hackman in it.
Shhh, I don't want to unduly influence Fred. But he'd be insane not to be amazed by Gene Hackman's performance. One other general remark: it isn't half the movie that Thieves Like Us is.
I think I've told this story before, but I saw Arthur Penn on the Dick Cavett show years ago, and he had the funniest B&C anecdote ever. To sum up, during the filming of the death scene, Beatty froze up on the first take and just stood there smiling while all the squibs went off and Faye Dunaway went through her death throes. Man, I wish they kept outtakes like that back in the day - that would be comedy gold.

Damn, that's an expensive take. Ya gotta be in the moment, Warren!

Well, according to Penn, he felt really bad about it - he just freaked out a little. Damn, though, I'd love to have seen the footage (from multiple angles).
