I think (fear) his bones sabotage him. I mean, Guy Pearce is patently capable of putting on the muscle -- but he's not big hero-looking guy.

I think Caviezel's eyes might be able to save my soul, but I doubt his biceps could save my ass.

Keeanu Reeves is 40 today. For all that he's perceived as pretty-but-dim, he's put together a pretty good filmography. River's Edge, Bill & Ted, Parenthood, Speed, Matrix. He's got a few excellent guilty favorites like Point Break and Johnny Mnemonic.

Devil's Advocate was pretty cool, too.

But not so much for him as it was for Al Pacino's portrayal of Da Devil - one of the top Satanic performances in cinematic history, I'd say. Although I'm also fairly partial to De Niro's Louis Cypher from Angel Heart.

My theory on Keanu is that he can't act very well, but he (or his agent or whoever) is damn good at choosing projects.

I am very fond of Devil's Advocate.

I think Superman as strong but not big is an interesting take on it. It would make him blend much better as CK, and seem a lot more otherworld-ly in his abilities as Supes.

I agree it would be an interesting take -- but they're dealing with a franchise that doesn't seem to suffer interesting takes.

Just judging by the Elseworlds Supes I've read -- they really are not willing to jigger the American hero too much.
