I tolerated
Mortal Kombat
flying!kicks much better than
Event Horizon
which I saw on laser disk at the insistance of a
professional movie reviewer.
I was speechless with disdain and excused myself politely from her lvoely home...then never read another word she wrote.
pardon me while I chortle over "the passion of a thousand fiery clambakes".
Heee
t shrug
I liked Mortal Kombat. Again, it didn't pretend to be anything other than what it was. When Christopher Lambert is your big mystical guy, you can't take yourself that seriously. (Hear that, Highlander 4?)
I'm so, so skeered of the Highlander V rumors.
skeeredskeeredskeered
and I didn't even hate IV.
BUT THERE WAS A MEMO!
Also, all the chickfighting was appalling. I used up my suspension of disbelief on Buffy.
Okay, I've worked very hard to eradicate all traces of
Event Horizon
from my memory so everyone can just stop talking about it RIGHT NOW.
I have no particular bile for anderson, but if you can hunt down the original script for soldier, you may decide that anderson's soldier does suck. My old link is dead, but I recall a western in space/what starship troopers should have been kind of deal.
Of course, this may be one of those times when my memory decides that what actually happened was dull, so it invents something more exciting for me.
Oh, and I also saw milla's band once, and think she probably is genuine euro-crazy. She did marry Luc Besson after all.
Okay, Resident Evil lovers, why??
Nutty, did you miss the part where I mentioned I'm a giant fan of the video games?
This is one of those my-love-of-this-movie -has-nothing-to-do -with-anything-rational-or-any-normal -movie-judging-criteria -of-any-kind things.
I do hate the carefree-woman-liberates-stuffy-man genre
My least favorite is Crazy Person Is Saner Than The Rest Of Us.
Hmm. I mostly agree, and yet, one of my very favorite movies is
Harold and Maude,
which could arguably fit into both categories.
Resident Evil,
well, it didn't suck as much as I expected it to! But there is much I will forgive for Milla. Probably too much. She and Kate Winslet tip my Kinsey scale, ooh baby. And her album's pretty good too--she has a kind of Kate Bush-esque thing going on.
Okay, and having asked about
The Apple
over in F2F, I have now read Jess's description and oh! I must see this movie.
