The BBC makes sliced bread? No fair. We can't even get TV here in the states to show quality shows, much less feed us.

Yes, this. I don't know whether it would make for better TV per se, but it would probably make me happier. But then, I miss the era of the mini series. I don't remember being sad that North and South or Queen or whatever was going off the air because they actually finished the story! If I'm given an ending, I'm not nearly as cranky. I wonder how the Tims and Josses of the world would feel. Excited to dive into something new all the time or frustrated that they never really get their rhythm with the cast and crew?
I loved Red Dwarf, and those seasons were 6 to 8 episodes long.
Similarly for Black Adder
If you know going into it that you've only got 6, or 8, or 13 episodes to tell the story, you may actually end up with tighter, higher quality shows. Less filler, more time to get it right. 22 episodes is a lot of TV.
IIRC, Joss made a comment about having to make every minute of Firefly count as he knew they were constantly under the gun. While I don't envy being under that sort of pressure, it certainly made for some compelling TV.

Forgot all about Black Adder - that's out on DVD right? I only caught a couple episodes of BA IV, I think it was. The one set in World War I? Laughed my ass off.
I think I'm going to be watching a lot of stuff on DVD this year, because the TV schedule looks pretty grim from my perspective. My guess on where all the 18-49 males went? Blockbuster.

Well they did produce and air the popular show "Bread" in the late 80's, which came in 30 minute 'slices'.

You know, it's interesting about the British seasons/arcs. I hadn't actually noticed that, other than thinking, gee I sure have seen all these Coupling eps, haven't I, and really, they're in which season now? I don't actually mind the amount of time that it takes overall, so long as the arc is deliberate and complete.

Liese, I love it! It's fun and hip and very cute! Unless, of course, you're one of those women who thinks the word "cute" is a negative in which case it's stunning and beautiful and definitely-not-cute! Also looks very easy to take care of and you can tuck it behind your ears so it won't be in your face all day. Also, great highlights! Is that enough exclamation points? No!

If I remember correctly from when I was there, total amount of time is the same but the commercials air in bigger chunks so it just feels different. I really should let one of the Brits answer this, though, because I'm very likely wrong.
