The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

If I only had a brain...

I have a migraine. Maybe my brain is off drinking martinis with your brain? Except that I don't like martinis. Stooopid brain. Drink rum punch instead.

Heh. I think I like Goad because I enjoy unrepentant assholes as long as I don't have to deal with them personally. I still think that Shit-Magnet would have been an Oprah book if he was a woman.

You know, we could experiment and cancel football.

Adam's post about seeing the movie last night with the whole cast. No spoilers.

And thanks for the news about the Inside, Kristen and Allyson. I can't wait!

Adam Baldwin. Rock. That is fanfreakingtabulous. Also, glad the serial killer conversation--certain parts of it--happened after Nilly's friends were checking out our suitability for hosting her. IJS. Good day in the Minearverse.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Can we go to test screenings? Please?!? Of course, by "we" I mean "I."

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

D'oh! I hit post before I meant to: for "pretty high" substitute "100-150K." Because "pretty high" conveys nothing at all.

An article I read in GQ last year gave an estimate as high as 200,000 annually, though I don't think they had reliable statistics to back it up. My assumption is that's number of incidents rather than number of victims, which would be somewhat lower.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I wonder -- when they update the rape numbers to include prison rape, what female numbers will come up.

All is well that ends in pizza.

I always wonder what the rape numbers would be for the past if they could somehow adjust for the reluctance/horror of women to report.

Not that there isn't reluctance now, it's just that in the last 35-40 years, rape has (slowly at times, it varies) become talked about and recognized for the crime that it is, and not swept under the rug with the whispers and innuendo about the victim.

ETA: Still a looong way to go.

Yeah, nobody really knows; the 150,000 number is an extrapolation from a study done in the prison system in... Nevada? I can't remember now.. I'm not sure if they included women's prisons in that one.

The DOJ study is certain to be low because they're taking the numbers from prison officials. If you ask prisoners, or guards, you get much higher numbers because of the same reluctance to report it. My company is working on the juvenile facility survey.

Actually, I've feeling a wee bit peckish...

Hi all,

Delurking because I can't cloak my excitement over the info on The Inside. Now, I'm just fighting off my little pessimism demon that already thinking about how many weeks does it go before a "save our show is started." ;-)

Here's hoping for the twin blessings of good promotion and good placement for the new franchise. Maybe third time is the charm...
