I really like the idea of AB breaking out of his mold.
Right now, his mold to me (Firefly notwithstanding) is X-Files. So creepy, dark, FBI? Check.
'War Stories'
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

No funny hats, though, I suppose.
Two wives, but a whole passel of political rivals.
Pfft. Idi Amin makes him look like a pussy.
No, I have no idea why I want to call powerful men pussies. The irony overwhelms me. Men, women, power, genitalia, the idea that it would make them want to kill me but they're like dead or not on the internet, so who cares?
It's also weird that I insult things by saying that they suck.

But does it matter that he just signed the death warrants, and didn't swing the axe?

Not to Jack McCoy.
I just like the idea of Adam Baldwin telling people to sit perfectly still in front of a bright light and then cutting little pictures of them out of black paper. For 48 minutes.
What do you mean, not that kind of profiling?
it sounds so grim and depressing.
I don't think the pilot is depressing. Grim, maybe. It's kind of hard to not be a little grim given the premise. But I think there's a way to balance the dark with the light and I think Tim has found that balance.
That said, it's not a happy shiny series. It's dark. But not as depressing as those "ripped from the headlines" show. YDMV.
There are some serial killers credited with as many as 600 victims on this list. It makes it seem weird that someone who's killed 3 is in the same category.

Good to know, Kristen. It's funny -- in a genre show, I can go waaay into dark and be okay. But the closer something is to reality, the harder it is for me to take a lot of violence and psychological trauma. Which is why I can cheer for death and angst on Farscape and Firefly but don't watch L&O: SVU.
