I have to say, I'm a little worried by this premise, not because I don't think Tim can do a good job, but because it sounds so grim and depressing. I mean, the characters can't be jolly, although they probably indulge in black humor, and the weekly plots will all involve grisly death of one form or another. Yeah, yeah, I loved H:LotS too, but I can't watch CSI: NYC or L&O: SVU.

Where's the dividing line between "engrossing but grim" and "too dark to watch"?

Depends on if you kill them all at once, or one at a time.

I really like the idea of AB breaking out of his mold.

Right now, his mold to me (Firefly notwithstanding) is X-Files. So creepy, dark, FBI? Check.
