Not technically perhaps, though we got proper knock-down drag-out fights between Buffy and Angelus on several occasions, and those certainly rocked.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Jim was talking about arguing for which show was superior as a topic of discussion. Which did sound like a fun, if potentially dangerous, idea to me.

I tend to share the opinion that the quality tended to seesaw, with one show waxing as the other waned. But I think Buffy in its pure state in the early seasons was better than either of the divided efforts.

They were part of it. Bringing in Buffy would have been, to me, very Deus ex Machina.

Or Slayers ex Machina. I think bringing in Faith might have worked, since it creates a nice tie-in w/ Angel saving her in a rain-soaked ally in Five by Five.

Slayer rescue would have been hella silly. Deus ex Machina that obvious needs to be left to comedy in these modern times.

It's possible that "Origin" is my favorite episode of the entire 5 seasons. It's just note-perfect the whole way through, the way "Surprise"/"Innocence" and "Passion" are for BTVS. Not a single false step.

If you're leaving out the end of season 2, you may as well take the last 6 from season 1, which set it up.
