I will laugh like a hyena if we end up with preferential voting somehow!

Bureaucracy 3: Oh, so now you want to be part of the SOLUTION?
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.

HA! I knew that would be your response, Jon.
I think the bigger issue is for us to discuss why it's TV threads driving so much voting and come up with a better long term solution for that.
Actually no preference is almost LIKE preferential voting. Except more irritating because it has the taint of indifference and hands thrown in the air to it.
It's because I haven't proposed my "What's for lunch" thread yet. Actually, theperfectworld really has that as a thread. Speaking of places that have a thread for everything.

What else is there to vote on?
Seriously.
I'm with Jon.

I would agree. I even have an answer in my head, although I am not sure how helpful it is...
Almost everyone joined this board originally to talk about a TV show (Buffy, Angel, Firefly). We stayed because we like the community. For some people, the community and talking to the people here about anything and everything are enough and they either talk about TV elsewhere or are satisfied with talking about TV in between other conversations. For others, they want to talk about TV specifically with the people they have grown to know and love and they want to be able to do that HERE. Because we started talking about TV, I think we keep wanting another show to strike everyone like Buffy stuck us, and to be able to talk about it like we did Buffy.
I am not sure if this is helpful, or correct.

I am not sure why I cannot shut up in discussions like this. To be fair, I do this in meetings at work, too.

I think it comes down to a combination of the following:
spoiler-aversion vs. couldn't care less (or whitefont-averse)
thread volume overwhelming specific discussion (either due to time or energy constraints)
bucket vs. thematic vs. single thread
change is good vs. change is bad vs. whatever works.
I'm sure I'm missing a few, but these seem to be the issues that keep coming up (and I didn't word them very elegantly, so apologies). The problem is that folks seem to have different combinations and degrees on each of the issues.
